I bought and returned it. It is reasonably well built for the price and has access to some features not seen even until you move to much more expensive interfaces (inserts, XLR outs, 4 pres, etc.). However, there are 2 drawbacks that were a deal breaker for me. 1) The Phantom power isn't individually switchable per channel. 2) There is no loopback, so you can't use it for streaming.

I typically write my reviews in chunks, and, having come back to check it briefly a week later, seem to have left a rather important detail out. Unfortunately, since I can't edit it, I'll have to post another review, sorry about that. Least expensive 4-input interface, to be exact. There are many 2 or even 1-input choices for $100-120, which are likely much more reasonable for musicians starting out, who don't plan to acquire combinations of multiple instruments and a microphone. The only reason why I went is because, for my income, the $40 up from the $160 202HD I was originally looking at is a gap small enough I can afford, but large enough I won't reasonably be able to buy another one if I need 4 inputs, it'd be a large investment, and, with stereo synths taking up 2 inputs on their own, with plans to build a small collection of 4-5, I do expect I will need 4 inputs, though not immediately.

I have to agree with the review by "kevin", posted about a year and a half ago. As a teenager searching for an interface, $200 was stretching my budget, honestly, but this being the least expensive, I didn't really have much of a choice, and, while I technically don't need it immediately, I plan to acquire multiple instruments, even at a very slow rate, and eventually will. Don't really have spare cash to upgrade, so I'd like to not have to for ~8-10 years or so. I don't particularly care about insane bit/sample rates, more about recording as many instruments as possible at a rate that's high enough to sound good. At the end of the day, the tracks recorded are either being run through headphones with 7.1 surround, or at best a rather large speaker found never-opened in the basement of a grandparents' house - not studio monitors. The drivers have been an issue for me while working in my DAW. Reason tends to require a manual swap, which disables my default system audio routing, requiring me to swap my headphones between the interface/instrument headphones out and my amplifier whenever I wish to, say, create another part, whether instrument or song section, that I think compliments a piece being worked on. Very nitpicky complaint, but this is incredibly annoying to me as my workflow involves doing this constantly. I haven't found any other way, as Windows simply refuses to recognize the interface as an audio input without actively using the drivers.

Reading the other reviews, I see a few other ppl have bought this unit and had issues, but I've had this rig for over a year now and problem free! In fact, for all the trash-talking of behringer stuff online, I've bought a few of their products so far and have yet to have anything really disappoint me! I use this interface almost exclusively for recording drums and also make use of the multiple outputs when mixing (nice to A/B diff sets of monitors). Fairly versatile interface for the price, truth be told. In terms of sound quality, tbh I don't really hear THAT much difference between the preamps on this unit and on my focusrite 2i2! More discriminating ears MIGHT hear the difference, but you'd have to be very picky. Bottom line: if you record at home and are on a tight budget, like I am...this is a great little interface. Gets the job done.

Good day, I have had a number of ADA8000's in the past, and currently have an ADA8200. However, I now require a 4-Channel USB audio interface. So, I thought that the UMC would be great alternative. I have not had any issues with either of the ADA's. Though I have had great success with the phantom powered inputs, when I began using the instrument inputs, I did have two issues, 1) I am unable to use the instrument input as it clips even with no gain set. So, I have to use the PAD, 2) the UMC "majorly colours" the instrument input - especially when using an amp sim such as Overloud's TH3. An incredible amount of midrange is being heard - especially with the bridge pickup. I did an A/B test using another interface and "Yes", there is a very noticeable difference between the two - with the other interface being more of what I am used to hearing. I am not sure if this is defective unit, but I am disappointed as this interface works very well otherwise.

Easy to use, simple learning curve, solid build quality, excellent value for the money. It fares quite well in 'blind' audio tests against much more expensive competitors.

Typical Behringer quality. It's a copy of the Steinberg UR44. You get what you pay for I suppose. It works as advertised but there are better AI's out there for sure. If you are on a budget, then this is a good choice. The main output level is very low compared to my onboard soundcard. I have to really crank up the amplifiers for speakers, headphones, etc. There is also a slight clicking on the main outs, a bit anoying. I wouldn't purchase this again, although I mush have bought the last one in the entire world because the entire world has been out of stock for over 6 months. You can't find these anywhere.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

Great Additions
