With its classic Dobro lines, maple wood body, and classic single cone resonator/spider bridge construction, the Dobro Hound Dog Round Neck is stunning in both appearance and tone. In addition to the bridges ebony saddle atop a maple base, the full, warm tone of the Hound Dog Square Neck is enhanced and projected by a new proprietary Dobro cone. With its classic construction compelling tone, the Hound Dog Square Neck represents Gibson Originals deep respect for both the instruments history and the needs of todays players.

Question: I see that this guitar has a knob on the bottom of the body to attach a strap. Is there a knob on the top of the body (under the neck?) to attach the other end of the strap?
- asked on Apr 2, 2024
Answer: There is not another knob under the neck for a strap. You'd have to either have the strap tied to the headstock or have a strap button added if you prefer.

Got this as part of Gibson month. My first resonator guitar and first time ever touching one. I can say I adore it and have not been able to put it down since purchase. As a delta blues lover, I am having a blast trying to recreate and mimic all the players and songs I love. I love satin finishes and this guitar is no exception. Love the colour (looks better in person imo than in pics on here), love the dobro logo on the headstock, and comes with solid little grover tuners that hold tune fine. Really no issues with frets, or building dings. Just need to get it a proper setup so slide can be performed more easily and more solidly. Enjoying experimenting with different picks and slides. For a first reso guitar, you cant go wrong with this as it is cheapest option available. I am happy with it and will be playing for a long time to come. Have not touched any other instrument since getting it. Cant wait to take it to the park and sit under my fave tree by the river and cry some blues.I recommend for first timers or budget players looking for a new toy to fool around with.

I rented this from LM. I love dealing with Long and McQuade, they’ve always been good to me. The finish of the wood components and the steel components are very nice on the guitar. The action seems set up a little bit low for using a slide, but it’s certainly manageable. Here’s the issue: The bridge (saddle) is reversed 180 degrees so that the thinnest strings are sitting in a huge gap in the saddle, and the thickest strings are resting high on the saddle. So in order to illuminate the buzz when the saddles halves are spaced correctly the builder simply pushed the two saddle pieces towards the centre of the bridge, the high strings are thus out of alignment and it does cause of playing issue. I’m certainly not a pro but even I notice it. I won’t fix it as it is a rental guitar, It can all be fixed but it was disappointing to find this out on a brand new guitar. It’s still fun to play, but I won’t buy it unless it gets fixed and set up again.

Nice Instrument, the second I brought it home I tuned it down to C# and it performed with zero fret buzz and held the drop tuning well. I have owned this guitar for two years and have never had a single problem with it. Plays well, holds its tune, no problems to speak of. I bought it new for 399, and it has nearly doubled in price since then. If you are new to steel resonator guitars then its a good buy, however If you already play resonator guitars or have expensive guitars in your collection you will notice the Hound Dog round neck is quite cheaply made and is hardly worth the price other than the fact the market for this style of guitar lacks completion at this price point. (Buy it Used).

Great sounding Gibson/Ephiphone entry level "Resonator" with a richer sound than you would expect for the price,($500. CDN).Just picked it up after listening to online video reviews and playing with it in the store. Now gonna learn to play it... got a year. Happy Birthday to me.... LOL It's a great feeling guitar, that has weight and durability feel to it.

I got this instrument in december and it is a great quality Dobro. I love the sound of it when used with a slide and when it's used in the guitar playing position. I'm very happy with it and for the price it is amazing quality. I recommend it highly.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
