Falls House Press Three Serenades for Three Flutes - Mercadante/Bailey - Flute Trio - Score/Parts
Composer: Saverio Mercadante
Arranger: David Bailey
Format: Score and Parts
Instrumentation: 3 Flutes
These three trios by Saverio Mercadante are representative of the florid compositional style which marked his large operatic output. Writing at the same time as Donizetti and Rossini, during the flowering of Italian opera which would eventually produce Verdi and Puccini, Mercadante produced exciting counterpoint amid the smoothly flowing lines of the Romantic era.
With the parts being equally demanding, this set of trios is truly ideal for three flautists of equal ability. These are not written in a "melody on top with supporting parts underneath" manner and demand careful attention to matching articulations and dynamics among all three parts. These have lain in obscurity for far too long. This modern edition which has corrected significant errors in the originals is a great addition to the flute trio literature.
