Enjoy the hilarious misadventures of Father Grumble.

I work harder than you do ... Here is the story of domestic rivalry that is as relevant today as it was in the time of Henry the VII, when it first appeared as the Ballad of a Tyrannical Husband.

Throughout all the variants of this song, our misguided husband encounters many domestic challenges while attempting to fulfill his wife's duties. Follow Father Grumble in his attempts to: milk the cow, feed the little pigs, watch the bracket hen, and finally to wind the reel of yarn. Father Grumble said: "He could do more work in a day than his wife could do in three. But as you will see: Nothing is quite as easy as it seems!"

The Songtale Father Grumble is part of the First Steps in Music for Preschool and Beyond Curriculum and is also included in the supporting Had Little Rooster CD Collection.

This picture book is one in a series based on beloved children's folksongs, part of John M. Feierabend's lifelong goal to identify and preserve the best music of our heritage for future generations.

The song may be downloaded in audio form for free, courtesy of GIA Publications (see demo).

Illustrator Erik Pludes brilliant and lifelike paintings capture the vivid details of this story. The fully-notated version with lyrics is included at the end of the book.

As with the other great books in this series, Father Grumble is certain to be a favourite of todays children -- another wonderful chapter in the continuing legacy of these delightful, classic songtales.

John M. Feierabend has spent decades compiling songs and rhymes from the memories of the American people in the hopes that these treasures will be preserved for future generations. Dr. Feierabend is a national leader in the field of early childhood education and currently serves as a professor and chair of the Music Education Department at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford.

Erik Plude graduated from the Hartford Art School in Connecticut. He currently resides in New York and works as a staff artist in Manhattan. Erik continues to paint and build his portfolio, always looking for opportunities to bring his artwork to the public.
