Tone gourmets loved it in blue, now the Traynor YCV50 is clad in sophisticated black and it looks even better. Everything else is exactly as it was on the blue version and that includes real tube overdrive provided by three premium 12AX7A dual triode preamp tubes while 50 watts of real tube power is provided by two EL34s.

Silent (no pop)channel switching provides flexibility while well-thought-out controls make it easy to dial in great tone without indulging in rocket science. Add in Celestion's rich sounding Vintage 30 speaker and the results can only be described as magical.

The three basic tones (clean, crunch and overdrive) are easily defined and are there even at low levels thanks to the Master volume control. The voicing of the lead channel has been tweaked to provide a more ominous or darker "British" tone, a natural evolution for an amp powered by EL34s as this complements the tubes' natural tonal characteristics. The clean channel's performance has been tailored more along classic, rich-sounding North American lines.

Although signal-to-noise is not normally something you might expect to hear about where guitar amplifiers are concerned, the ultra-quiet Custom Valve 50 makes it worth mentioning. Even die-hard studio pros appreciate the auto-matching tube circuit that maintains bias balance as tubes age, ensuring hum free performance ideal for miking-up the speaker. Meanwhile DC filaments and chassis-shielding on the preamp tubes all but eliminate preamp hum, perfect for direct-lining to the recording or PA desk. And all this golden silence has come at no cost to available gain levels which are potentially monstrous.

Features:
- 100% Designed & Manufactured in Canada
- All-tube design with two EL34 and three 12AX7A Premium tubes
- A Single 12 inch Celestion Vintage30 speaker for great classic sound and performance

- Fully regulated power supply ensures ultra low noise with tube rectifier emulation

Clean Channel is fine, Normal Overdrive Channel is the worst due all your low end bottom notes on chords are buzzed and cloudy, the Boost Overdive is fine but at high volumes is extremley noisy. My Marshall Combo JCM 2000 TSL60 was Delicious but too heavy.

I have owned this amp for over a decade. I had to have it repaired while still under warranty. The repair was not done properly and I had to bring back a second time. The amp has a nice tone and more power then I need. Its way too heavy and if you don't need the watts get the smaller version.

Amazing combo, at a great price. Crystal clear clean and warm OD. Adding the extension cab soon as well. Handles pedals very well. It's also very loud.

I have had the YCV50Blue model for over 11 years and still love it. It works well with single coils, P90s, and humbuckers. It produces great clean, crunch, and medium high gain sounds (think JCM800). EQ works well. Reverb is deep and sweet. Effects loop works like a charm. It is loud enough to shake the fillings out of your head, but thanks to the master volume it can be tamed nicely. Even at the highest gain settings it is surprisingly quiet unlike a lot of medium gain amps. It does not produce a Mesa dual rectifier type sound, so it is not for modern aggressive metal. A good distortion pedal would open up those sounds. For classic rock/hard rock/classic metal it is hard to beat. My only criticism is the frictionless feel to all the pots. While they seem of high quality it is too easy to accidentally move them. I wish they had greater friction like a Marshall's controls. Other than that no complaints. For the price you cannot go wrong.

I have the YCV50 Blue. Basically the same as the black model except for the blue tolex finish. My wife gave me this with a ?63 reissue Les Paul by Gibson for my 50th birthday eleven years ago. Nice wife huh ! As mostly a hobby player and after ten years, I can say that this is a very versatile amp. In my youth, I owned Fender and Marshall and I can easily say, without reservation, that this 50 water lacks nothing in comparison. It can mimick both of them and more with experimentation, something I never tire of. My only complaint, if I can call it that, is restraining myself from turning it up, rattling the walls and upsetting the neighbours ! Build quality, sound quality, flexibility, it's all present in this amp. It's World Class from Canada.

Tried out every amp in the store plus 3 hours of testing amps all day. Everything in the $!000 price range for a stage use, 2 channel combo. Clean channel switching and effects loop delivers works well in both channels. Also takes affects well in the front end as a pedal platform. Master volume is very responsive like an attenuator. Only Complaint: I wish the boost had a volume knob and worked for both channels. Other than that it's 5 out of 5.

I traded a guitar for this and wow I am super impressed. Lots of great tones can be had without a petal, my go to hard rock tone is without petals. Still cant believe the trade I did to score this, total winner.

I spent a few hours trying out different combo amps in the store and this one sounded the best hands down & surprisingly was at a lower cost than similar amps. Built like a tank. Excellent quality build. With the boost engaged it has noticeably more bass. I run an eq in the loop. The loop works great. Running a Fractal Audio FX8 into it. The amp takes effects very well and has a very clear quality sound to it.

At first when tryed the amp I tought it sounded awesome on the floor. When I took a brand new one home I found it was dark and muffled. After a discussion with a store tech we changed the power tubes and since then the amp really sings. The drive chanel have quite a good gain and sound very nice and tight with a tube screamer in front. The clean channel is chimey and full with a bit more emphasis on mid range than my fender but it sound awesome in its own way. If you crank the volume to 8-10 you have a nice breakup too on that channel. One thing I really miss is a presence control, it really helps to shape the sound you want and I tend to run an EQ in the fx loop instead.

Go to the store. Try the Marshall, Fender etc. amps under $1,000 - then try this one (clean and dirt). You'll hear the difference. This amp is excellent value for the $.

I never wrote a review before but here goes: Channel 1 - This is the overdrive/dirt channel. by manipulating the gain, channel volume and master volume you can pretty much get every significant Marshall tone ever. I can comfortably say that I've dialed in everything from JTM45 to DSL sounds. Some say the drive channel is too dark, I disagree - if you run the channel volume over 3/4 and bring down the master - it brightens right up ! Channel 2 - This is a very diverse channel and often under appreciated. There is definitely a Jeckyl and Hyde theme here.... Keep the channel volume under 1/2 and it's soothing, clear and with the bright switch engaged, chimey. Once the channel volume creeps over 1/2 however, it starts to breakup beautifully and really responds magnificently to picking dynamics. Over 3/4 on the channel volume and you're on the express route to crunchy land. To summarize - this channel morphs from Fendery clean to Voxy bark with a turn of the channel volume knob. Reverb - This map has a genuine Accutronics spring reverb. The reverb has an really nice range available from small room to outrageous cavern. Master Volume - I cannot stress enough the effectiveness of the master volume on this amp. A 50 watt tube amp is capable of killing small animals but the master volume on this amp allows you to play anytime, anywhere without any compromise on tone. Channel Volumes - As I mentioned int he channel reviews, the channel volumes are also incredible tone shaping tools! Effects Loop - The effects loop on this amp is a series loop. It works as well as any high end amp I have ever played. Quality - This amp is proudly made in Pickering, Ontario and was even the subject of a How It's Made episode (how I discovered this amp). The amps internals are on par with any high end amp. The preamp tubes are cleverly protected from vibrations behind a padded plate. The body is made from Baltic Birch plywood and it solid as a rock. There are no shortcomings in the construction of this amp. Speaker - 8 ohm Celestion Vintage 30. Perfectly compliments this amp's voicing. There is an additional speaker jack for connecting another 8 ohm cabinet. I personally own the matching 112 cab (YCX12B) and it is also very well made with a Vintage 30. The 112 cab really compliments this amp and adds an incredible amount of punch. The bad - My amp came preloaded with Sovtek 12AX7WA preamp tubes and Ruby EL34B-STR power tubes. 8 months in one of the power tubes developed a rattle. No big deal. I ordered a trio of JJ ECC83S preamp tubes and a matched set of JJ EL34L power tubes. I found that the tube swap opened the amp up some, the highs had more presence and there was more punch on tap. Replacing tubes is a fact of life with a tube amp so this is in no way a bad thing but in the interest of a transparent review I added this in. I use this amp with a 2013 SG standard and I mostly play primarily classic rock/metal and this amp has NO problems nailing those tones with the need of a drive pedal. The only pedals I run are tuner, phase, flange, chorus, delay, wah and univibe (MXR). This amp is everything I wanted and more and I know of at least three people who bought one after hearing mine. You really owe it to yourself to try this amp out !!

I was unfortunate to miss out on the ygl1. but this had good reviews so i thought why not. the clean tone sounded good, but not the same as that of my blues junior (v30) that went in for repairs. for some reason, dont know what, using pedals with this amp was just a big no no.i just wasn't able to get my overdrive pedal to sound clear. turning the tone knob on the pedal didnt help either. turned the bass and mids down on the amp, didnt help. and the marshall style od doesnt sit with me. i guess it was just this particular amp that had these problems? not saying this is a bad amp, just that it really doesnt work for me.

When I went in to buy this, I asked the salesman for a tube amp that had an overdrive like a Marshall and a clean like a Fender. He took me to this one and I couldn't complain. And as a bonus it is Canadian manufactured. It sounds so smooth with a very nice reverb built in.

Very nice amp. This is a keeper, the amp I have been searching years for. I have owned the Marshall Vintage Modern 100 and a couple Fender tube amps as well and don't have them anymore. As good as it gets. Whether playing clean or dirty with either my Les Paul or Strat, this amp does it all. All the options I want.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
