I bought this bass back in 2015 give or take a year. I’ve used it on over 100+ recordings. And still love it! If you make the right adjustments to it, and change it when you need to for what you need it for, it can do ANYTHING. It can be very bite-y. And very gentle. I kept the stock strings on for the first 5 years as I have other basses that I would use for recordings calling for more treble or more hollowness etc. I began writing and recording more jazz/blues around 2019. So having the OG strings duller worked well! Then in 2021, I put flat wounds on and I think I figured out what this bass was meant for. At least, for me. If my hollow body becomes too hollow when I need a little less, this is the bass I grab now. It never fails and is just a solid. Workhorse. It will not disappoint. Aside from my personal taste, here’s why this bass is great: Pickup are VERY versatile if you get used to the jazz bass knobs and learn their subtleties. Ash is a great wood and paired with the rosewood board, it looks, and sounds great! As well, the ash seems to balance it out if you’re wearing it and standing. No neck dive. It is quite heavy. And I’ve had back issues since childhood. So I’ve always played it sitting down. But due to the weight, it does sustain better than other jazz basses. The neck is slim and tapers up to a sort of early/mid 60’s girth at the higher frets. Which for a beginner, or intermediate player can help alleviate cramping and fatigue. The back of the neck is also satin. So forget about getting all sticky if you have clammy hands. The hardware is great in both functionality and appearance. And the clear finish gives you a nice window into the ash body. It’s a stunner. Plain and simple. Nothing plain and simple about the way it sounds though! I’ve had this bass about ten years, I’ve used it a lot. And the frets are still perfect. No crowning or dressing needed. I suppose all of that depends on how you play. I have a bit of a gentle touch and rarely bend strings on this bass. I know that this bass is no longer in production. But if you do happen to find one used, it’s worth checking out. Mine was bought in Winnipeg. I highly recommend this model for all styles of playing, all skill levels (maybe don’t start off with this bass if you’re a child due to the weight of it) and all genres and sounds. Enjoy!

Bought this FSR Jazz today and took it to jam with a band I've never played with before. Once I got my sound dialed in I was extremely impressed. Plays slick and has a throaty punch I love. This one will be in my stable for a long time.

Exceded expectations, the combo of ash body and rosewood fingerboard give this bass a wonderfully warm and woody sound. Great for classic rock, jazz or anything where a chunky punch is needed.

I read many reviews before purchasing this bass guitar and had my expectations in the right place. I am sure a high-end model will play and sound better, but the deluxe FSR jazz bass offers incredible value to me personally. Well set up, plays great out of the box. The neck surprised me, it's very fast. This is a fabulous workhorse of a bass, no regrets!

This bass is decent for the price. It's a solid, unspectacular instrument - but it's no steal for the price. The sustain is nothing special and noticeably inferior to higher end basses. It is rock solid in construction - but is noticeably heavy. If you're standing and playing for along period of time, you will definitely feel the weight after a while. A decent beginner/intermediate bass, but if you're planning to play long term, you will probably end up going to something better made - and lighter later.

Fantastic bass. My first real Fender bass and I couldn't be happier with it. A little heavy, but makes a tremendous sound. All around great purchase!

I've had a few American made jazz bass's over the years and they were great. The New Fender Special Run Mexican Jazz bass sounds and plays pretty much, just like them. Frets a little sharp, and needs a set up. However this one has a great ash body, nice weight to it and sounds really good. I would use this as my main bass any day. Its a keeper and quite afordable. Thank you L&M

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
