I bought and used one of these for over a year with relatively light load (an old JVC handheld dynamic I had lying around, pretty similar to an SM58). It never stayed where I wanted it to, and tightening the screws did not actually appear to accomplish anything. Barely usable, and irritating to work with. The base looks nice, but the plastic cone that holds the arm down is not durable - mine suddenly snapped completely and dropped the entire assembly on the ground. I don't understand why Rode decided to make the most critical component of this product out of plastic, but That. Is. Bad. Design. I won't be making the mistake of buying a replacement. Don't pay this much for something this mediocre.

I purchased this arm to replace a cheapo $30 arm that was starting to show significant wear for a streaming setup. Initially, I had tried out other high-end tube styled arms (like the Blue Compass), but decided that this Rode PSA1 was the one that suited my needs better. The biggest selling point to me was how ready out-of-the-box this arm is and the reach that this could go which is something like 32" reach. Much farther than I need it to go for a streaming setup, but nice to have that play room. The build quality in the arm and the mount are much heftier, and it feels like this arm will last me for many years to come. Also, a little silicone oil on the visible spring on the joint goes a long way to make this arm operate a lot smoother and quieter as part of regular maintenance.
Also something to think about, but if you want your microphone to stay levelled while the arm moves, the parallelogram design and scissor arm mechanism is precisely what lets it do it. Something I've learned the hard way that tube-style arms fail to do, simply by the inherent fault of their tube design. The Rode PSA1, however, is scissor arm, so no problems here.

Purchased the arm to replace a working but cheaply made microphone arm. Used with both a Shure SM7B and an EV RE20 microphone without issue from the perspective of weight and placement/adjustment. Very quiet adjustments and easy to install. Acceptable (low) handling noise transfer to microphone. One note, not of caution but of preference; personal preference for the RE20 to be hanging down and the Shure SM7B to be supported from the bottom. Even with an extension tube (Shure A26X), could not adjust the Shure SM7B to be vertical. In my case, switch the arms between the two mics and both personal preferences were accommodated! Yes, it's more expensive than other arms; but you feel the difference in material and build quality immediately. Great value for the price. Overall a really solid microphone arm and recommend highly.

great quality, using it for the Rode N1TA condenser mic with shock mount and pop filter attached. it easily handles the weight.. worth spending the money on versus looking for a cheap one.

Just needed to point out, this is compatible with most shock mounts. Not just the podcaster and procaster.
