Previously installed the standard Martin style Tusq pins on my Yamaha LL16 to replace the stock plastic pins. The difference was that it changed the sound enough to where I thought it was a different guitar. Worth every nickel.
Decided to replace the presentation ebony pins in my Takamine 740 FS guitar. Solid cedar top with solid fancy mahogany B&S. Using bronze strings to brighten the sound but still not enough projection played acoustically. Plugged in with the cool tube in the preamp - fantastic, but acoustically just not there. These presentation Tusk pins again changed everything. Recorded tracks with each of the pins using the Roland Octa Capture. It has a feature called auto sens which "listens" to you play for a short time and then automatically sets the gain in the perfect spot. WIth ebony pins - using two Octava pensil mics the Sens was set to 39 on mic input 3, and 41 gain to mic input 4. Leaving everything in the exact same position, and after changing the pins to Tusk - the Sens set the respective gains to 35 and 37. Less gain required as the guitar was that much louder - more projection. The back of the guitar vibrated way more against my body. The guitar came alive and a cleaner sound across all the strings. Nice harmonics especially in the trebles and mids. Did not want to stop playing the guitar. Believe me - these pins are worth it to get the best from your acoustic guitar.
