Get this recorder, it's so much better than Carlton's altos.

I own this recorder in faux-rosewood finish. It's a great instrument that's as in tune with itself as reasonably possible. It sounds as good as you'll get from any plastic instrument, and to beat it in wood you'd have to spend at least 6x the price. This is an alto, so it's pitched in F and much easier on the ears than the soprano recorder (pitched a fifth higher in C). It's also in Baroque fingering, which is the proper type for anyone looking to play longer term and in various keys. There can be a bit of plastic squawk (especially on the high F) but this can be tamed with regular practice. While I also have a much nicer wood Moeck, I still find myself reaching for my Yamaha for practice since I don't have to worry about handling it or maintaining it. Regarding clogging: Yes, it eventually clogs. You deal with this using a combination of technique, and by warming the head for 5 minutes prior to playing, and by dipping the head joint (specifically the beak up to the windway) occasionally in a mixture of 6 parts water to 1 part dish soap.

I really enjoy this recorder! I did some research, and it seemed to be one of the best plastic altos on the market, so I bought it and I'm quite fond of it. Probably my only concern is that the windway is quite small, so it might clog with condensation more easily, but that's not too hard to fix, and not too big of a deal on a plastic recorder. Would recommend :)
