Got one recently on Gear Hunter for half the retail price, very nice quality and sound. Replaces two big 100W powered speakers that I had to put on heavy stands. This one is a breeze to carry and set up. The quality of the sound is excellent and there is plenty of volume for a typical pub gig or meeting room event. If the two little speakers could be slightly oriented to the left and right on the column, the sound diffusion would be better but it's a minor detail. I can split the speakers for a stereo effect. If I need more inputs I use a small mixing board. For voices the sound is loud and clear. The Reverb is very effective and almost too much! The sub-woofer can really drive bass sounds for musical instruments or music from bluetooth. A very good purchase.

THE GOOD I've used this at a house gig weekly for over a year as a solo acoustic/singer, and rented for numerous other gigs with a percussionist. Very quick setup, mixer is easy to navigate, the Bluetooth is practical for playing tunes from your phone for your break or whatever. I am not sure that I would pay $1300 for one, but they are a steal to rent. They work fine in a room up to about 40-50ppl. After the sub and main volume are past 12 o'clock (which is usually more than enough for the amount of ppl mentioned above) it starts to compress quite a bit and doesn't get much louder. Definite sweet spot there. I've also daisy-chained 2 of them together with a band and it worked great...much more headroom. THE BAD I had a warranty issue on one unit when the back panel became loose and would vibrate tot he degree that I thought the speaker was blown. Another occasion I have had an issue in the power section where the AC connection was either loose or something wonky inside. Not a real big deal in either case, as it was only one of many units that I have taken out on rental, and local LnM totally took care of me. OVERALL A very decent little compact system that is hard to beat for the rental money. Consistent and Easy to setup/use.

Owned an EXM400 for two years and love singing and playing through it. I use it as both a home studio PA and portable PA. I often use the bluetooth to stream music as well and find it very reliable. When I first set it up I I was not impressed with the sound until I figured out how to best set it up. It is much better if you can put some distance between yourself and the speakers, at least 10 or 15 feet. Too close and you don't get the full mixed sound. Also the subwoofer is very strong and I find the most natural sound with the sub adjusted to level of about 30%. I highly recommend buying the optional mike stand speaker adapter ($12.99) and a mike stand and cable to allow you to separate the two small speaker pairs to opposite sides of the room to get more of a wall of sound. I like the quality of the reverb and the separate reverb controls for channels 1 and 2. This is one of my most used pieces of equipment, it is built like a tank, and I would not hesitate to get another one if I lost this unit.

I originally looked at the Bose L1, but as with most Bose products, it is overpriced, and sadly lacking in sound and features. It also has very poor projection. I rented the EXM-400 and was so impressed, that I purchased it at the end of my month's rental. I have used this system in a number of venues, from outdoor market, to indoor public library, and studio. It is a breeze to carry, set up and EQ, and has great projection outdoors. Yorkville have really outdone themselves with this product!

Rent this EXM-400 at half price rental from Richmond was trying at home with 2 sections Tweeters on top, surprisingly didn't hear any mid range, use EQ from my Mixer it help, so I try one section off is better, now I took 2 sections off, don't have to adjust EQ at all and work's well. Yesterday set-up with 2 sections Tweeters on maximum height, turn Bass down a bit pointing at 70+ people in Restaurant, it can hear high, mid, Bass and Treble and Bass adjustments and many features, my solution is larger room or outdoor and small room use different sections height to adjust Treble and Bass mix and getting mid range. Thanks to Richmond store recommendation in the near future will purchase at least one for Karaoke event. Our Karaoke Group just purchased Bose L1 Compact, no Treble and Bass adjustments only has one Volume control, it has high, mid, Bass but if use in big room only hear high and mid , try turn up Bass in Mixer, Sub Woofer won't handle the adjustment, my opinion Bose good for smaller room use.

TH'US is just a trio. A mom & pop & friend band. We play original power pop rock and roll, with electric guitar, bass and drums. We play small venues of up to 50 people and this excursion 400 Really works for us. So lightweight and designed for portability. We love it. Must be tried to be believed.

I rented this for a sports competition - first used in a gym and then after at an outdoor field. For music I used a Spotify playlist on my iPad, connected via bluetooth but I also had the connection cord as a backup. For announcements, I rented a wireless Seinnheiser microphone and mic stand. Again, everything performed as expected. Performance/sound was super, you need to keep the sub at less than half to avoid distortion but not a problem and the sound was fine at that level. Super easy to carry, transport and set up.

I have 2 of these units that I bought used and they work great if you EQ them to the room. i use the for a side wash monitor for our band and also use them for jam sessions and in a duo situation. Primarily use them for practice room. I had a problem with one unit that went up in smoke and I got really excellent warranty service, unit was replaced free of charge no arguements, even when the timing was questionable. I would recommend these just for the warranty

I rented one of these to do a Karaoke night. 2 mic inputs and a line in for my computer providing the music worked out great. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is the small speakers are a bit thin when the sub is turned down, and the sub is really boomy. Took me an hour of tweaking to get the mix right.

I own a pair of the EMx400s and find they do sound good if you can put the a distance away from you when you play, if not and too close to me because of stage restrictions, I find them way too bassy, and if the bass is cut back the little speakers sound thin and tinny. The bottom sub only let's very deep low end sound out and no midrange at all. From a distance it seems well blended,,,but if you work close to them ...I'd rather have the full range cabs that are available. Sadly I bought this system and should have rented it. Now I'm go a be out money trying to move it.

I bought a pair of the EXM 400's for my Duo/Trio. They are fantastic!!! We play mostly smaller clubs, wineries, bar restaurants. The 400 watts per side is MORE than enough power! We just played an outside venue at a winery and the coverage and power was no problem what so ever! I didn't even get to the 50% mark! It's small and easy to set up doesn't take up a lot of room to transport or take up a lot of room on the stage. If they were stolen I'd most definitely replace them with the same thing!!! I also use them with my Trio. We don't run drums into it but still have no problem being heard over a full set of drums!!! We use a powered sub for the bass drum and the rest of the drums bleed over into the vocal mics. I had a pair of Fishman sticks, so glad I sold them!!! Nothing but mids and highs. These definitely have a much better bottom end. You won't believe how much bass the 2 10" subs produce!!!

I was impressed as I did not require an additional mixer and the sound was amazing. So amazing that even the party guests were impressed and curious enough to come and check out this system. For a 3 day rental price of $19, you can't go wrong. I would have loved to buy this system but at $1,199, I feel it is too pricey may be when they drop the price to about $799 it will be worth.

I've owned the EXM400 for about three months now. I used it at an outdoor church picnic at a local park today. I like to provide the background music every year. Last year I used two EV powered speakers and they were big and heavy, probably overkill and had no Bluetooth or built-in effects. So this year I made a 4-hour playlist on my iPad and connected to the Yorkville EXM400 via Bluetooth. I set it up in under 5 minutes and It worked flawlessly and sounded absolutely fantastic. I can't believe the bottom end and clean, clear power for such a small unit. Everyone was able to hear it throughout the whole area and it didn't once drop the connection or have one hiccup. I had the power up to about 4 and that was plenty. I'd suggest this unit to anyone. It was setup in 5 minutes and was easy to haul around, too. Add the fact that it has Bluetooth plus two channels each with digital reverb, and this thing is a great micro/portable PA for all kinds of solo / 2-piece gigs!

I auditioned this and the Bose L1 Compact in my local Long and McQuades. This has 400 watts, the Bose is "only" 130 watts. The Excursion really didn't impress me. For more than twice the power, it doesn't have as good a sound quality as the Bose. It doesn't have 180 degree coverage like the Bose, maybe 120 degrees, it's a very noticeable difference. I would have thought the bass would be much more powerful than the Bose, but surprisingly the Bose held it's own and there really wasn't much difference in volume between the two. The Bose is only 2 input channels vs 4, doesn't have the Bluetooth connectivity either, no reverb, so I really "wanted" to like the Yorkville. The Excursion just doesn't sound as good, seems awkward to carry as it weighs more and quiet frankly, it's sound coverage isn't impressive at all. I bought the Bose L1 Compact.

Been a DJ for close to 10 years and had to DJ a small New Years Eve house party and did not want to bring out my big honkin' sound equipment (because it would be overkill). This EXM400 was recommended to me by the L&M staff and could not have been happier. This system was almost too easy to set up and the sound quality was top notch. I walked into the place and had music going within 10 minutes. For the price, you really can't beat this. I think i'mma buy a set. Really great system.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
