Q & A

Question: Could this hold a laptop? Most laptop stands have a solid base that's inconvenient to transport, like this one: https://www.long-mcquade.com/91231/Pro-Audio---Recording/Stands/Samson/Heavy-Duty-Laptop-Tripod-Base-Stand.htm I'm looking for something more foldable.
- asked on Dec 24, 2023
Answer: The music rack isn't really strong enough to hold a laptop reliably. The Samson stand you linked to is a better idea.

Answer: Depends what you are doing on the laptop. I use mine all the time for standing zoom meetings or even sitting ones. It’s like a heavy duty laptop tripod to me.

Used with a 16 inch MacBook Pro 2019 with no issues.

Just make sure there is a book behind the laptop because otherwise it will scratch the back of it.

Question: What is the sized of the shelf?
- asked on Jun 2, 2024
Answer: The music rack is about 19" wide.

It was good while it lasted but it only.lasted a couple of years before the base broke. I only put one inch binders on it.

I wanted something that would hold a binder of music without falling over, or falling apart. Easy to pack up , sturdy, does the job. My complaint is that the top does not line up properly so the paint is being scratched off every time I fold it up, and it sits crooked when sitting on the stand - trying to straighten it out but don't want to break it in the process.. Check it out carefully before taking one home.

I was looking for a stand that was as rugged as an orchestral music stand with a fixed desk, but that was collapsible and portable. This stand fits the bill. On the down side, the weight of this stand at 6.5 lb makes it heavier than the average music stand. Also, this stand comes with a nylon carry bag, but other reviewers have commented that the bag rips after some use. I carry my stands, including this one, in a drum hardware bag (Profile PRB-HW20), which Long and McQuade also carries.

I conduct several children's orchestras with kids as young as 8. Several years ago I purchased 10 of these to replace a handful of those small lightweight stands. It was the best purchase I made. These are rugged, durable, the kids aren't knocking them over as they flip pages in their binders, and they're all still in great condition. Some of the bags have torn a bit, but are still usable. I would highly recommend this stand especially if it's going to get knocked and bumped around.

I compared this with a commonly used black concert music stand that I also own. This is a well thought-out design. It's a solid stand. At close to 3 kg, it's not light but then it's not a flimsy wire stand. It's meant for daily work and for use in concerts and rehearsals. It folds up into a relatively compact 75 cm length so you aren't forced to deal with an awkward music rack and base to bash into walls when you move it. The rack is 4.7 cm deep and width is almost 90 cm, so in use it accommodates large music books. It tilts 180º and you can use it horizontally if desired. The clamp tightens securely at any angle. The base has 3 legs which extend outward as much as 80 cm from the centre (compared with a fixed 50 cm for my other stand) for the most stability. It takes two hands to adjust the height but it clamps securely and doesn't slide down with heavy books and music on it. There are two hex bolts that may require tightening eventually. The bag is heavy duty cordura type fabric with a drawstring and there is an adjustable 3 cm wide strap to carry the folded stand.

Love this music stand. Owned it for 5 years plus. Need a new bag, original carry bag is worn out.

I play double bass so have a stand so compact is a bonus. One less trip to the car for gig. Holds a heavy book no problem. I would recommend this to any jazz player.

I have had two of them for years, and they are still going strong. It's portable with it's own case, can hold heavy binders, all the advantages of the traditional black stands but with portability. Most of my musical friends have followed suit and purchased these.

I have been using it for the last six years and still going strong. Nice heavy duty stand and very convenient to carry around. I mainly use it for my tablet and lyrics sheets for karaoke sessions. Holds very well.

If someone accidentally loses the nut that is used to keep the height in place, good luck getting the part from either Yorkville or Long-McQuade. Yorkville didn't respond toe emails and the store says they can't get it.? So, I can't use the stand.

I hesitated, because of the cost, but you definitely get what you pay for in music stands. This stand works like a camera tripod, with large tightening knobs on a very sturdy stand. The music holder has a deep shelf and is sturdy enough to hold a large binder of music. Definitely worth the money. I am very pleased.

Wow!! This is not the music stand you may remember from Grade 7 band class. This is very heavy duty and well constructed, much more so than is apparent in the photo on the website. Will hold tons of music/books without any hint of falling over. Expensive but worth every penny. I'm very happy with this purchase and L&M service

This stand folds up compact to carry around easier than a bulky orchestra stand. It is very sturdy, will hold any binder of music I put on it.

Much better than the ones that look like an inverted shovel... Folds nicely in its carry bag. Lightweight and sturdy. Will not tip easily even with heavy books on it! Excellent design and value.

I use this stand for daily practice (guitar, tuba) and the occasional gig. It has enough weight to avoid being blown-over by wind in outdoor conditions. Very sturdy. For home use, consider the extra-wide model as it holds more music.
