inspired by Murray's longtime onstage go-to guitar, combining time-honored Strat tradition
with the modern roar of three Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups, the fast feel of
a compound-radius fingerboard, and the highperformance reliability of a Floyd Rose

I've always loved the feel and sound of a Strat. What I didn't like was the way they sounded on heavier songs. So without routing and permanently changing a great guitar, I bought the Dave Murray Strat and love this for the tremolo and the heavier sound. I like this as much as my American Strat for playability and much better for heavy rock.

I was looking for a Super Strat for some time, checking the usual suspects, Ibanez, Jackson and all, just to have one in my arsenal. After shopping around on the web and in stores, I fell upon a list of unusual Strats where this one caught my eye. I ordered one and have been playing with it (though not in a band set-up yet due to the virus) and recording with it for the last two months. Let's start with the good stuff. It looks great, has a nice weight without the body being too chunky, roars nicely and the set-up was good from the get go. The neck is thin but slighly thicker than an Ibanez. A wolf in a tuxedo would be how I describe it. Now, my relatively tame gripes The fret buds need to be addressed as they are a bit poky. Considering the guitar went from a hot weather locale to a nordic one, i'll consider it par for the course. Second, I would prefer the JB Jr in the bridge position. Third, I changed the Floyd Rose springs set-up so that they have equal tension distributed across the three which helped with the tension. That means I also had to learn how to adjust this type of a bridge, which was actually fun and not the nightmare I expected it to be. Fourth, those mini humbuckers sound nice and mean but do not have the same output as humbuckers and came up somewhat short in a couple of occasions when I recorded with it. On a final note, I love picking it up and having a go with it. The Floyd Rose trem is a revelation to me, not because of the dive bomb abilities it has, but because of the smoothness and subtle inflection it can give to a note

Iron Maiden fan aside, this strat had all the features i was looking for in a strat style guitar. I love the duncan buckers, the floyd rose trem and the aesthetics of the pearl pickgaurd and the rosewood board. This also doesn't scream signature model like other sig. Guitars which i like as well. With a good setup it plays great and the floyd holds tune really well. My ONLY beef with the guitar is the nut... for some unknown reason fender decided to put a 12"radius r3 nut on a 10" radius compound neck. If a guy uses the stanard 9's on their guitar this is ok, but if you up gauge like me to 11's both E strings are exceptionally high in the setup. I had to order the right floyd rose R4 10" radius nut so my setup and string gauge would work right. ... so fender was there a deal on R3 nuts that day? Weird? Anyway, other that that, this is a killer instrument and I'm very happy with it.

Ordered this guitar sight-unseen based on other reviews. With the 3 Seymour Duncan pickups, and Floyd Rose Original alone, it was a "how could I go wrong for that price" kinda thing. It arrived, and I wasn't disappointed! Out of the box, the guitar looks exactly like the catalog. Handsome classic sunburst, pearloid pickguard, and mirror gloss finish. The truss rod needed adjustment, which isn't a surprise really given that it was shipped direct from balmy California to wintery Nova Scotia. It did come with a fairly high action though - which actually was a bit of a surprise. I spent a couple days doing small rod adjustments and letting it settle, and was able to lower my action nicely without any fret buzz below 12th. Low E buzzes oh-so-slightly above 15, but next string change I will lightly dress the frets there. Not bad at all to be honest, given some horror I've read about MiM guitars. I am happy with the neck. Nice profile, comfortable to play, and the radius makes for clearly articulated notes when doing solo bits. The only thing I can say about the neck that doesn't make sense are that the tiny white inlay dots set into the light maple wood are very difficult to see when playing while standing up. Not a huge deal, but they might was well not be there. The intonation, as shipped, was dead on for my Super Slinky's - and I mean dead on. I'm super O.C. on my setup, and it didn't require a change in the least. The strings didn't require much of a break-in, and the Floyd keeps its tune very reliably. Straight up, the pickups sound amazing! This is a rock/hard rock/metal "Super-Strat" - no doubt.... but the middle JB-Jr cleans up quite nicely, as does the neck Hot-Rails. This is a great instrument, that is quite versatile. I'd highly recommend one!

I did not buy this guitar because of Dave Murray or Iron Maiden. I purchased it due to the fact it had what I wanted in a guitar. Hot rail pickups and a Floyd Rose and a Strat body. The pickups sound great if you play some Maiden riffs, you pretty much get the tone you expect. The Floyd Rose is the Koren version but it seems as good as the real deal from Germany. The neck feels great, the frets are OK but some of them could use a little more work. The overall tone of the guitar sounds great to my ears. The finish is fantastic, I like it better then the U.S.A guitar finishes. The body is a two piece American body due to the clear finish. I think you get what you pay for with this guitar.

When you look at what you get here, this guitar is a super solid value. Yes, it's a Mexico strat that is over $1000, but the upgrades are a real Floyd Rose original bridge, high output Seymour Duncan pickups, a compound radius fretboard that feels great, very nice vintage tuners, and the pearly pickguard. The sound of the Hot Rails in particular is very rock - they don't clean up super well and are definitely mid-heavy, but they produce great crunchy rhythm and fluid lead sounds, and the JB Jr in the middle cleans up nicely and is arguably the best use I've ever gotten out of a middle position strat pickup by itself. I also like the fact that despite it being Dave's personal model, it does not scream "I LOVE SO MUCH THAT I WANT TO LOOK EXACTLY LIKE HIM". It's understated and even the signature is on the back of the headstock. No one who didn't know Maiden would know you were playing anything other than a super nice looking nice sounding instrument. Really happy I purchased this.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
