Overview

Capable of delivering an exceptionally smooth, flat frequency response with highly predictable proximity effect, the ART D7 large diaphragm dynamic microphone offers a musicality and tone not easily attainable with small diaphragm dynamic or condenser microphones. The unique character and versatility of a large diaphragm dynamic makes the ART D7 an essential addition to any live sound or studio engineers microphone toolkit.

In live sound and recording applications, the D7s cardioid pattern offers excellent feedback rejection and isolation, making it an exceptional choice for powerful vocal applications and a wide range of solo instruments including background brass and low range bass woodwinds, acoustic stringed instruments like cello and bass, bass amps, high volume guitar amps, drums and percussion.

It offers full frequency response at the front of the microphone with a very controlled and predictable proximity effect - the increased low frequency response when microphone is placed close to sound source.

Vocalists can use the proximity effect to their advantage, adding fullness and more 'bottom end' to the voice. Experienced vocalists can easily incorporate it as part of their overall microphone technique. This is exceptionally useful when the D7 is used as an announcement microphone in broadcast applications.

Integrated High Pass Filter and Midrange Boost switches on the D7 allow tailoring the microphone response for specific applications, adding versatility and ensuring accurate tone shaping at the source.

The microphone's precision-tooled body and dent resistant stainless-steel wire-mesh windscreen offer unmatched long term reliability. The included shock-mount (M-MC2) virtually eliminates vibration and handling noise, while at the same time safely securing the microphone in any position needed during use.

Aluminium carry case included.

I use this mic for vocal overdubs mostly, and I really like it. I found that it doesn't have as hot an output as other dynamic mics I've used, so I run it through an outboard preamp in front of my audio interface. That's the only negative I've found, and it's a pretty minor one. Great sounding mic.

New to the recording business, this is our first mic. We use it for podcasting with a Focusrite Scarlette 18i8. It's worked great for us. We record in a pretty quiet closet. The only noise we have is a rattling vent but the mic does a good job of not picking up that ambient noise.

When I first heard of this product, I was not so sure that I'd run right out and buy one, ... Until I heard a voice track recorded, using The ART D-7. I was introduced to this microphone by a highly qualified broadcast engineer, who is knowledgeable in this realm. And, for the price, it can not be beat. Sure, ... Everyone has a different idea of the perfect microphone, for each task, whether it be voice over, for a commercial, or sweeps, jingles, idents, or live news / talk. The ART D-7 is every bit as good as the Electro-Voice RE-20, at 1/4 of the price. I have owned an ART D-7 for about 2 months, and I can honestly say that the ART D-7 will offer more "Bang For The Buck". // J. Smith ~ GM/ PD - The 902 ~ HXIR

Contrary to a lot of negative reviews on this microphone online, I have found this to be a very useful and nice sounding microphone. When used with a good preamp, it makes an excellent vocal recording mic. Also sounds very fat on distorted guitars! With great sounding affordable microphones like this on the market, it is easier than ever to make great sounding recordings without breaking the bank.

This is a great mic, and a ridiculous value. I recently did a comparison between the ART D7 and the EV RE20 (which is considered the gold standard of large diaphragm dynamic mics); and even though these two mics are polar opposites in terms of price, the D7 came out ahead in many respects for my use, which is voice over. The preamp I used was the DBX 286s. To my ears and on my voice, the D7 had a fuller and more open sound, it is very articulate and had a more even response across the frequency spectrum, versus the narrow and hyped sound of the RE20. The D7 can still get that hyped sound with the mid-boost switch engaged, yet at the same time sounding more open and natural than the RE20. The D7 also has a low cut switch, so there is a lot of flexibility using the various switch combinations. I was so impressed that even though I had planned on buying the EV RE20 because that's the sound I was looking for, I bought the ART D7 instead because it actually sounded better to me and gives more flexibility for my use. So while YMMV, the EV RE20 will give you 'that sound', but the ART D7 can get you there and more; it's definitely worth a try, and be sure to explore the various sound possibilities with the switch combinations. Grab one before they realize how good it is and raise the price.

The ART D7 is a great budget mic for vocals, drums, and the likes. Handles high spl's to a decent degree. For someone looking for SM7B quality, look elsewhere, but for someone looking for a microphone that doesn't break the bank, yet gives some clear, and clean audio (with minor EQing), this is for you.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
