I bought mine a few years ago, right after they first came out. i flirted with an MXR Bass Preamp first. and while that is a great pedal too, it just didn't have that certain warmth I was looking for. So I bought this, unheard.
I love he effectiveness of the EQ and the Ultra switches. The scrambler works for the tone I was going for (never going above 50% on either the Drive or Blend controls!).
There are only two things that degrade my features rating from a perfect 5/5-
1. the input pad is a jumper inside (as many have said). In one position, it's too hot even for my DiMarzio-loaded P-bass. In the other, too quiet. No problem. I just upped the output level of my compressor (always on) a few db and found the sweet zone.
2. It would have been nice if Ampeg put in a 3 or 5-way midrange selector, just like the SVT. Not a major issue, but a quibble if you are trying to dial in the mids "just so".
Certainly a keeper in my books!

Okay, it's a DI pedal, so the important thing is how it sounds, which is great. I pretty much leave this thing on at all times when playing. Easy to dial in the tone and adds some serious warmth to your bass sound. The Scrambler drive is often criticized, but I use it as more of a slight layer of grit, so it works for me. The only real complaint I have is switching between 0db and -db inputs. You have to open the pedal up to switch this, so if you use a mix of active and passive basses, it might be a pain for you. Since I use all active basses, it's not an issue for me, but it's something to be aware of.

I'm new to the world of bass. Purchased the unit because of all the connectivity features, and because I can't use an amp in my current situation. Built more sturdy than a blasted tank!! Pre amp is silky smooth, adds just a bit definition if knobs are turned to half, with the mid knob at about 40%. The scrambler is phenomenal. With both knobs turned about 40%, I get musical breakup. Just enough to get some extra harmonics, and give the bass a little growl. I use with a battery. I can plug in and play anywhere I go! Get it! You won't regret it!!

I rarely post comments about anything positive or negative for that matter concerning products or services. However, in this instance I will make an exception. I was thinking about buying an Ampeg Amp but couldn't bare to part with my Fender Bassman, neither could I justify having two bass amps. So I bought this pedal after seeing so many great reviews....... all I can say is see the title to this review. Using the pedal as a DI into protools sounds amazing, clear, punchy, the lows are there, the scrambler really adds that Ampeg tube sounding crunch. Using it as a pedal through the Bassman.... well it's even more impressive..... I love my Bassman and am always complimented by others on how good it sounds, however using this pedal elevates the sound so much that I can't think of using the amp without the pedal.. the best $269 I have spent in a long time......

I was looking for a way to shape my tone because I was growing tired of my amp. I purchased this from L&M and instantly fell in love. It gave my tone the growl I was looking for. And better yet, when I'm on the road, if I have to use someone else's bass rig, I can instantly dial in MY tone. Many bass players have told me their amp never sounded so good! Ha! 4.5 is for the fairly useless Scrambler; it cuts tone and volume. But if you don't need distortion or you have a good secondary distortion pedal, you'll be fine.

I picked up a used one from Long & McQuade about a year ago - to echo the other reviews: it's super sturdy, feels and sounds great. I've gigged with it multiple times and the tone shaping is excellent - I'm able to go from vintage mid-heavy honky/farty sounds to scooped out slap tones no problem. The scrambler circuit is okay at best, I use it as an almost-always-on feature to get a slight grit to my tone but not much else. It can thin things out pretty quickly. There is a -15db pad jumper INSIDE the pedal that can be adjusted for active basses/hotter output pickups, though it would've been nice to have this accessible without taking the back off. I've been told by more than one sound guy that my signal was quite hot, and I couldn't do much about it (even though I use a passive bass). tl;dr - great tone shaping, okay overdrive circuit, well built.

I have owned this product for about a year and I've gigged with it multiple times. The physical quality is amazing, extremely durable. The only reason I didn't give this thing a 5/5 rating was the scrambler effect. I personally find it next to useless and I am playing in a metal band... I like how it sounds on its own, but in the mix it drops all the low end and you lose you're bass line among the other instruments. Maybe a driver/ volume pedal would fix this? The fact that I can drop a 9v battery in there and just plug some headphones to play on the go is amazing! Final verdict is... WORTH ITTTTTT

I got my new schecter beast of a bass, it was soo powerful and sounded untamed. This Di helped me mold the sound into exactly what I wanted. The housing is really solid, could hurl it at a wall and the wall will break before it! Literally the only draw back is, that I wish it had a volume pedal. That would help. But that is literally the only complaint I have which I can easily work around. The fact that i can strap a 9/12volt battery in there and plug my headphones in. The fact that i can play it on the go is hugee! And the sound quality of the AUX out is crisp and clean. If you are on the fence about this product... GET IT!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
