I had a similar experience as other people here. I got 2 pairs for two TVs and connected to them via 3.5 jack. They worked great, perfect sound, good base, but only lasted about 2 years. So, you have to be aware of that. McQuade store offered $50 diagnostic with a pre-approved limit of $150 for repair. I guess their idea is that you leave them there, they repair it and then they sell them for $99. I guess I can buy a new set KNOWING that they will last just 2 years, or go for a different brand.

My experience mirrored a previous reviewers story. The monitors worked great for a few years, then they started having an intermittent problem with no sound from the non powered speaker, and then finally no sound from either speaker. On the circuit board there is an area with numerous diodes and two large resistors which shows a lot of discolouration from overheating. Because of the circuit design, these monitors were destined to fail from the day I bought them.

Just got them today as I just needed some monitors for a cheap little chromebook I got for xmas. They work fine out of box for me. Packaging was neat and everything was there cable wise. Although the description says a protools is included but I dont see it. Not really a big deal for me. They sound good with my zoom r8 multitrack recorder. I actually like the black and xbox green colour scheme. Also like the ring light around the volume knob. Nice little size that can fit on any desk or shelf. At this price point what else can you get? Sure they are not top tier but for someone in similar position to me situational and financial wise I think they are a good buy. We will see how they hold up.

A lot more low end than I had anticipated. Crisp clean accurate representation, small footprint and more headroom than I’ll ever need. Great value.

I purchased a pair of CR3's to use as speaker monitors about 2 years ago. Recently, the non-powered speaker output ceased to function. Shortly thereafter, the powered speaker began to malfunction and has since stopped functioning altogether. There are a number of blogs on which people have posted exactly the same issues. Apparently, these speakers are not designed to last. Bear in mind that these units were not abused and were never set above 1/3 volume. Disappointing ... I own other Mackie equipment, but these speakers are a bad product ...

For $130 these monitors work great. Don't let the small size worry you there is plenty of bass. After a quick learning period I check some mixes and they sounded pretty even on other speakers. Would strongly recommend to anyone on a tight budget.

They honestly worked for about 30 seconds worth of playing, then they powered off and won't power back on. I trust the great folks at L&M to resolve this problem, but I can say you may want to try a different product if you're looking at entry level monitors. I also have a set of AV42's, they're going strong for over a year now.

If you know what high end mains really sound like, you'll be disappointed unless your expectations are low. If you've used nothing but headphones or built in laptop speakers, you'll be pleased as can be. If you enjoy building and/or designing speaker/audio projects on the other hand... While they're okay for cheap monitors "as is", yanking the drivers out, stuffing extra damping material(fiberglass/polyfill) into the cabs (and putting the drivers back in obviously) and partially blocking the ports with polyfill makes them sound like they're 2x-3x the price, but with smaller power amps. They have enough power for most non professionals, but if you judge tracks at high volume, these are short on power, especially on their own. Out of the box, they tend to have an uncontrolled high midbass peak (Something like 130hz if memory serves. The lows roll off awful fast below 100hz too) but a bit of work like I mentioned they're not bad. With a decent subwoofer and a bit of fiddling with the above mentioned mods, they're surprisingly good. The woofers are also true rubber surrounds.

I purchased these around 1 year ago and I'm extremely happy with them. I noticed another reviewer saying they were not really impressed because of 'muffled sound.' No issues on my end. Prior to these speakers all I was using were the built-in MacBook speakers, and the difference between the two is astronomical. If you're used to extremely high end studio monitors, then these may not be sufficient for you, who knows. I am someone that loves listening to all genres of music, frequently, and I am very picky when it comes to sound. These are perfect for my needs and for the price I wouldn't even look at anything else if I were you.

Just bought these speakers and not really impressed. Speakers sounds muffled. I don't know if you need a high priced sound card for PC in order for better sound out of these speakers. I guess for a 119 buck what can you expect! They look great and have the features but I have to say spend a bit more to get better sound. If these speaker were 3 way they might have a better sound.

I got these for my computer desk and didn't want large speakers which take up too much room (I already have a set of large monitors). They sound better, in my opinion, than the M-Audio AV32's, and have a very smooth and natural high end, which makes listening to music a pleasure. Good definition, and these could be a very good set of second monitor speakers, to check mixes on smaller speakers. Yes, the bass doesn't go as low as larger woofers, but for a 3" woofer, the bass is quite good, and for my purposes --basically to use as a computer speaker monitor--it works very well. I like that I can turn it off in the front without reaching behind the unit.

they produce my min tech and club house well. they are impressive and down right acceptable speakers for the price. they do have a low end although they have 3 inch drivers. you can stop driving your room mates nuts cause you can get them loud enough to mix without the sound going through the wall. they are good monitors to dj with.

I read nothing but great reviews for these monitors. Personally I find them to have too much mid range. They have good bass, treble and overall great clarity and honesty, but just too much mid for my taste. I bought these as a second set of reference speakers before final mixdown, but to be honest, I think I would have done better with my wife's $50 computer speakers

I recently bought a record player and realized I needed a preamp and a set of powered speakers. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and searched for the cheapest active speakers I could find. After reading some reviews on these I was sold. They come with a bunch of extras and loaded with features like the front volume control. They sound amazing and they are small enough for me to move to my recording area if need them for monitors. They are also way cheaper at L&M for some reason than online so go pick up a pair!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

Great Additions
