The old version was very good, but had a problem that it couldn't accommodate thick straps. This newer version is better for this feature. But, in the past few months of buying this newer one, it seems to suffer from QA/QC issues. I've had one where the button was machined too large and couldn't accommodate the lock. In another one, the hex voids had been rounded out on the inside so the hex wrench just spun around. Bad inspection/QA. For the price point, I expect better from a product made in Germany. I wish I could rate higher. The work around is to buy the bulk buttons from Fender and then use these updated locks.

I was a bit skeptical at first, because I had never used anything like this. But after almost dropping my brand new Strat guitar, I purchased them. I can highly recommend them as a safety precaution. Install was fairly simple, although YouTube has a few vids if needed. Doesn't change the feel, balance, or anything. Highly recommend for someone like me who constantly stands, sits, and moves around, like I do.

Love this product but when put on a sg the neck lock really sticks out alot and pokes the stomache. I had to get epiphone strap locks because they are alot shorter.

That's right, I've had a set on my 1979 Les Paul Standard for 32 years... not a slip. So I bought a set for my new Les Paul Special Double Cut. The new model is even a step up from the original. I swapped out the old model on my strap that used the nut for the new style and it locks securely, even to the buttons that have wear for the last 30 years. If you're having problems getting the screw to fit into a Les Paul strap button hole, take some toothpicks and cut them to the depth of the hole, put a few drops of decent wood glue or white glue on them and stuff them in there. Wait 24 hours for it to dry, put some candle wax on the new strap lock screw and gently drive it into the hole... Works like a champ. Time to get a set for my Telecaster.

These are the new design schaller strap locks. I've been using the original strap locks since the 80's and find these are excellent and worth every penny. I've converted over to these on all my guitars. Schaller has been paying attention to players concerns as these new strap locks have solved the lock nut backing off and post screw backing out issues, add to that no more annoying squeaky metal on metal sounds and no more difficulty releasing the strap as the old ones would jam up making it hard to get the strap off at times. If you own a guitar you care about, play standing up lots, gig or record these new Schaller Security Locks are the best solution I have found. One quick note is I'm noticing that many of the L&M staff don't know that these are a newer product they seem to think only the packaging has changed. I also noticed several of the reviews that were written for the new Securty Locks are actually about the original design. In the past with the original design I would super glue the post screw to the guitar and locktite the strap side lock nut which made it very difficult to remove the hardware. After years of use these wear out and need to be changed. I've never had one of the originals fail but I've seen where the strap side hardware was worn badly from the guitar side hardware wearing through it creating a small hole. This occurred after about 15 years of gigging. Like the originals this new design requires tools that you would likely not normally carry but my gig bag just got lighter as I no longer need a cresent wrench on hand. You will need a allen key and a small jewelers flat top screw driver. Whats also great is that if you have no tools the strap side harware lock nut is now a thumb wheel (not a hexx nut) and is tightened by hand. This is unlikely because there is a set screw to lock it in place with this new design. All in all many improovements have been made by Schaller. I have not dropped a guitar since I started using Schaller strap locks and I want to keep it that way. 4.5 accross the board. The grip on the thumb wheel could be better and the small set screw that locks the thumb wheel is too small. Make it a bit bigger and switch to an allen key there as well and use a hardened steel set screw and include both wrenches for 5 across the board.

Button came right out of hole as the screws are not big enough for any LP.... you can't change the screws either as it is part of the button. BAD DESIGN - almost dropped at 10k guitar on ground because of this.

Design and quality great but should include an allen wrench and small screwdriver. Not everyone has that size allen wrench nor a jeweller's screwdriver.

They worked fine for me all year but now it keeps falling off my Les Paul any time I lean slightly (the one near the neck)... no idea how the mechanism even lets go without someone pulling up on the ball end but its happening so be warned. Just ordered a different brand. I never write reviews on anything but I felt like saving people some broken toes.

These strap locks keep my guitar perfectly secure. They’re a bit pricy for the job they do but better this than having a smashed up guitar.

I needed strap locks for my Les Paul because I had a strap related incident to my lesser Strat knock off and wanted to ensure this wouldn't happen to my nice guitar. These were a quick and painless install. I have had these installed for about a year and have had no troubles. Great product

78 Strat, 83 Pacer, 96 EC, 14 LPC and 15 Elite. All have Schaller strap locks, installed immediately after purchase. (Elite's were stock). After 40 years I have only had one instance of the lock/nut coming loose on the strap. A quick wrench and it was fixed (was just not tightened enough when I installed it). I bought a Squier bass two weeks ago, and thought I'd save a few bucks and just use a Fender strap. After fighting with getting the strap over the button every time I have decided to pay for the convenience and safety of some Schaller strap locks. (Even though the strap locks are >10% of the value of the bass lol) There are lots of options when it comes to strap locks. And they are all fine. I go with my experience and Schallers are definitely worth it.

Cool way to quickly switch out straps or to take your strap on and off. I wonder sometimes about the long term quality, as I rarely play standing up, but so far so good!

I've used this exact same product for over 15 years without any issues so I bought them again for another guitar. They do stick out a bit from the strap post. It might be an issue for some players on guitars that strap to the back of the neck at the join.

i inherited a pair on a used guitar i bought and find that the metal on metal creates an unwanted clanging sound when playing sitting down, so i removed them, and just use the cheap plastic ones which i prefer.

I purchased these at the same time I purchased my Gibson SGJ 2014 on the advice of the sales person. They were easy to install and work flawlessly! As an added bonus, the existing Strap Buttons from the SGJ were better than the ones on my Epiphone Les Paul 100 so I switched those ones out.One purchase, two simple upgrades. My only complaint is I would prefer it they had a brushed look like the rest of the SGJ hardware.

My Les Paul Traditional is a heavy guitar. All of Gibson's none chambered guitars are heavy and pop off the strap. This happened to mine and cracked the neck. Get these Schaller Strap Locks and get the default ones off asap. I emailed Schaller and inquired about screw sizes etc and whether or not these would fit my Les Paul and got a reply from the Owner of Schaller himself in Germany. He sent me screws and a bag of picks and a Schaller sticker all at no charge. The best customer service I've ever experienced from any company. All of my guitars now have Schallers on them.
