I grabbed this guitar off the wall and It sounded great! Way better than any of the other entry level guitars. If you are considering a Denver or something like that (my son owns a Denver) for someone as a first guitar. Do what you gotta do and scratch together the extra money for this guitar instead. It's a nice size and has that more expensive guitar ring to it.

I was really surprised with the build quality in this price range, the tuners worked great as well and the tone was balanced. A great starter guitar.

Picked up a Gretsch Jim Dandy last week. I can’t put it down! A well-made little guitar that is so fun to play. And for the money, it’s a steal! If you’d like to learn or a youngster wants one, you can’t go wrong with this thing. And why is it that a young person will start to learn and then give up in frustration? It’s because they’ve been given a cheap-ass instrument from a toy store that sounds crummy, never stays in tune, and is no fun to play. Do the right thing and avoid those false starts with a Gretsch Jim Dandy. As Gretsch themselves put it, the Jim Dandy Flat Top acoustic “embodies everything that was great about everyone’s first guitar.”

I bought one at my local L&M store (Tracadie, NB) and I love the thing! I'm getting more and more into country blues, country and western music, and this thing just have the vintage mojo I needed! The guitar is probably not for everybody, but if you are after a vintage sound and feel, that these things do it very well on a budget!

I was searching for a small light weight guitar to play, as I’m a paraplegic and I just wanted something comfortable to hold and compact enough that I could just play some days in bed when I’m feeling crappy. This little guitar was recommended to me, so I went in the music store actually prepared to buy a Little Martin or a baby Taylor ( and spending much more money), however the feel of this guitar, and the slightly larger neck is perfect for my less than dainty fingers. Anyone out there looking for an excellent quality sound, without breaking the bank….look no further! I’m sure it depends on what you expect your guitar to do, however I had the action lowered, and I’ve been playing it non stop for over a week, and I haven’t had to even tune it yet. This little gem has brought music back into my life! It’s going to definitely be my “go-to” for campfires and finger picking❤️

It's the first guitar I've owned, although I've played a rental entry-level full-size dreadnought, as well as a Yamaha 3/4 size dreadnought. I am loving the sound - it is quieter (for obvious reasons) than the full-size guitar I have played, but the sound is much more complex and appealing to me than the 3/4 which is comparable in size. Very playable for me as a novice player with small hands. I am also left-handed and I reversed the strings at home, but I brought it in for the tune-up because the action was too high. Folks at the Vancouver location went above and beyond to file down the nut, adjust the action, tune it up, and I believe they may also have filed the saddle--for free, and all within a 5-day turnaround time during Holiday season. My only criticism is a small bubble/blemish here and there on the finish on the neck. I'm no guitar expert, but I am enjoying learning on this and I know for sure the service was excellent at l&m.

Plays well, stays in tune and is sturdy. Seems like most people that dislike this in the reviews either don't know how to set up a guitar (ie. lowering the action is not rocket science and doesnt L&M offer a set up free when you buy a guitar?) or are expecting a $250 parlor guitar to sounds like an amazing/ expensive acoustic - you get more than what you pay for at this price, its a great value for a beater but have pragmatic expectations - its not gonna sound like a vintage Gibson hummingbird and that's ok because its about 10K less so that's reasonable

I have been playing for over 25 years and I'm giving this little thing a perfect review based on the price point. I was shocked when I took it out of the box and started playing it. I have a Gibson 58 VOS that I have become very comfortable with so I knew exactly what I wanted in terms of neck specs. I have been looking for a 3/4 guitar for a LONG time but I couldn't find one I really dug. 58 VOS NECK // 24.75" scale length // 1.687" at the nut // 12" fingerboard radius. This little beast is 24" scale length // 1.687" at the nut // 12" fingerboard radius. Right away it felt super natural in my hands ( not as thick as my 58 which some people might actually prefer ) Out of the box it played really well. The quality is spot on. The open gear tuning pegs are brilliant because they will last forever unlike some of those cheap chrome plated encased tuners. The finish is smooth as silk and blemish free, I even tossed a little polish on there and it really brought out the reds. I played for about 3 hours. Chords, some solos with some nice big bends, switching frets with a capo, taking the capo off etc and it stayed in tuned like a rock. Really impressed with this twanger, nice work Gretsch ( All this coming from a Gibson guy :P ) PS Thanks Long and Mcquade Burlington for the safe and fast curbside pickup. I've been shopping at Burlington Long and Mcquade since I was a kid and it was on Guelph / New Street.

Action is high. Doesn5 feel great for strumming yet but I’ll give it a chance.long Mcquade said they would set it up no charge.... I think all that the guy did was tune it up?? I’ll make another review after giving it a chance. Make no mistake, I’m buying a campfire guitar so as to not take my expensive Martin camping.... it is a nice guitar for 250.00 and it is a Gretsch. We will give it an honest try

I've had this guitar for just about three years now, It's just fine. In terms of features it's not very different from too many other things in its price range, other than the paint job. Other guitars will do fine, this one just LOOKS quirky and cool. Quality is great, for what it is. If you're buying this thing I doubt you'd expect it to match a pre-war martin in quality, and it doesn't have to. The fretboard has decent inlay work, the frets aren't noticeably uneven in terms of height - but the edges just above the fingerboard could do with a bit of a sanding if you want to reverse the strings and play lefty. The sound is good, but one-dimensional. It's boxy, doesn't push out a lot of bass and does very well in the midrange and treble range - it's a fingerstyle blues machine, and if you play softer it'll do chords and a more folksy fingerstyle just fine, but that's not what it was made to do. As far as value goes it's a tough one, it doesn't have a solid soundboard, it doesn't have a pickup, it doesn't feature any fancy woods or veneers. BUT it's a cheap guitar and it does that cheap old blues box sound that most other guitars just plain fail at. Also, been three years of regular playing and occasionally having to leave the thing in my car in a gig-bag in the summer for months on end - and it's holding up just fine. I've no doubt it'll last as long as I want to keep it around.

I've owned and played many acoustics in my time. This guitar is worth every penny and you wont fine a better deal at this price point. Plays well, sounds nice. The build quality is really nice as well. I am also a huge fan of acoustic guitars with a satin finish.

Bought one of these a few years ago for a beater/camping/travel guitar. You get what you pay for with the sound, its not a high end guitar so don’t expect it to be. However, Ive had this guitar on the river, left it outside camping and my son has been walking on it, dropping it and beating on it for two years now and it still holds tune and plays just fine. For that I am truly impressed and I own several guitars. It sounds like (from reading reviews) I got one of the good ones. Try it out in store before you buy it for action and playability but as far as I can tell for what it it it does the job well.

I've never had music lessons before so decided to try guitar. Bought this Jim Dandy and have been happy from the first moment I held it. Taking lessons online and it's 3/4 size is easier for me to hold than a standard size guitar. Lovely tones, stays tuned, beautiful colour and finish. Very happy!

first off the action is deplorable it came out of the store with way to high action i cannot even play a bar chord on most frets, its pretty much built for slide guitar the strings that claim to phosphor bronze they kill your fingers and are rough on the fingers i really dig the look of the guitar but its so damn hard to play i hope i can get a replacement and exchange it for another guitar all together the 1st fret strings take all your might to press down and the low E string buzzes if you don't place you finger exactly where it wants you to i am not impressed at all i got a junker i cannot even play ffs

I bought this guitar to put in my living room since it was small and really affordable and given the price I wouldn't care if it got beat up a little. Since it's so small and compact I found I took it everywhere and started playing it non-stop. You can't go wrong with this guitar.

I purchased one last year based on all the great reviews I've read and if you are looking for a small parlour guitar you'd be hard pressed to find better value than a G9500. Small enough to lug around and jam, I play it more than my Les Paul because it's so convenient. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a guitar in this size or someone looking to get started in learning to play.

Played one of these in the store when they first came out (they were about $150 then). I'd been thinking about picking up something I wouldn't worry about banging around and travelling with, but finding a guitar that wouldn't hurt to replace but was still a likable instrument was all but impossible. But this was definitely the answer. It's easy to have around the house (hang it on a door, lean it in a corner of the couch) and most of all it is fun to play. The intonation of the one I got is fantastic right up the neck. It has a great blues and folk sound to it. I even jammed a fishman soundhole p/u in it, and it works great. Yes, the finish is spray paint and the binding is painted on, and no, it doesn't give you the full warm tone of a finer guitar (I have a few acoustics, including a Larrivee C-09 and an older Gretsch dreadnaught), but it totally hits the spot for what it is. Top notch laser-guided CNC factory mass production and some really careful design obviously went into it. And two years on it still plays like the day I first tried it in the store.

Performance Warranty Banner
