This music was written in the period between 1908 and 1910 by Russian composer Arthur Lourie. He began his career in his country of birth, studying under Alexander Glazunov at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, but his travels during the early 1920's took him first to Berlin and then to Paris where he settled. He fled to the United States in 1941 after the German occupation of Paris.
