I needed more clean headroom out of my Vox AC15 heritage handwired amp. The 12AT7 has a lower gain factor of 60 (as opposed to 12AX7 which has a gain factor of 100). After a lot of investigation I ended up getting the EH because I had this brand as part of my EL84 set in the past and prefer it over the JJ hands down. There are a lot of expensive options out there, but you can't go wrong with EH. This tube might even be better than some NOS. It is a well articulated and expressive tube. I was able to get more clean headroom out of my amp as the tube will breakup later. In turn it's also making my EL84 work a bit harder which translates to a sweeter tone. The interaction with the volume knob on my Tele guitar improved as well (not expected either). My Treble Booster pedal sounds even better with my amp now. Remember, you need to know what you want depending on your gear and the sound you're looking for. If you want to cleanup things a bit on your preamp section, this definitely will do. I placed it in the V2 position which is the first position of the Top Boost channel in my amp.
