I replaced these in the pre-amp of a Peavey 6505+ and wow what a difference it made. The previous owner had a mix of the stock Ruby 12ax7's and JJ's in the amp. It sounded shrill and unpleasant. After re-tubing whither the EH 12ax7's the amp had a much wider & warm tone. It actually made a big difference in making the clean channel much more usable (these amps do not have a particularly good clean tone) while keeping the high gain channel ferocious!
I highly recommend these in high gain amplifiers.

I bought a used Traynor YGL-1 from Long and McQuade and found it had a bad tube in it. Initially, I replaced them all with a matched pair of Mesa Boogie EL-84, a Mesa 12AX7 in the V2 position and a Mesa 12SPX7 in V1. While the sound was vastly improved, I felt that the proper tones of the amp were not shining through. After reading about various 12AX7 tubes, I decided to try one of these 12AX7EH tubes in the V1 and move the 12SPX7 to the V2. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Seriously, the amp sings now... I can get any tones I want from sparkling cleans to a perfect growl for 80's metal. I would highly recommend this tube for anyone looking for a well balanced tone with sparkling highs, buttery mids and a crisp bottom end. Try one!
