The romantic repertoire of bassoon concertos is not particularly rich in number, and, except for Carl Maria von Weber, the names of their composers are not to be found in the current books about history of music. A sensational discovery is the bassoon concertino by Franz Lachner, edited here for the first time. This beautiful work belongs to the finest compositions for the bassoon.

The manuscript from 1824 bears the dedication a Mr. Thiebaud de Hurth. Theobald Hurth, born on December 5, 1795 in Landau (Lower Bavaria), first studied the flute before he became 1st bassoon at the Grossherzogliches Hoftheater in Darmstadt. From 1818-1823 he toured extensively throughout Europe before joining the Vienna Court Orchestra. From 1838 onwards he taught at the conservatory and from March 5, 1840 he was also member of the Hofmusikkapelle. Hurth died at March 9, 1858 in Vienna.
