After having them a few years with limited and gentle use, the one side stopped working.

Dollar for dollar you can't beat these cans. I've A-B'd endless comparisons and you have to spend 3x to beat these. Very durable and comfortable.

Overall I have mixed feelings about these headphones. I bought these based on all the positive reviews and needing to replace a beloved pair of Oakland that died on me. Being on a tighter budget I thought I’d give the ATH-MX30’s a try based on all the positive reviews the M line received.
I use these primarily as practicing head phones for bass practice and for general listening to music. For bass practice these headphones are great and their natural sound make them a great headphone to plug in and play. They’re really comfortable and the build quality is quite good.
As a listening headphone they have a fairly flat sound, decent detail, a good soundstage, good mid and bass response but there’s something about the treble response that doesn’t sound great to my ears. Highs just sound harsh and distorted and the frequency response leaves a lot to desire. The sound starts to distort at low volumes.
I’ve only had these for about 2 weeks so they may need some breaking in but so far I’m not disappointed but I’m not super impressed either.

Owned these for about 4 years now.
Only true negative I have is the ear padding covers have been slowly cracking for a couple years now (but not affecting comfort or usability yet).
Tried a lot of headphones before I bought - was looking for something around $60-120, with good music quality, cut out background noise at least somewhat (I use them in the office a lot), and stayed comfortable for at least several hours of listening a day. For the price, these are excellent for me (couldn't really see much difference between these and the M40). A couple other brands I tried in the same price range were also good, but I found they dropped off too much on the low range for my preference.

Honestly at this price point its pretty hard to criticize anything about these headphones. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my headphones and these were a pleasant surprise. I've never had such a genuine frequency response as these phones give me. I'm using them mainly for radio broadcasting and some studio work and I'd highly recommend them.
My only criticism would have to be the plastic feel when you move them around, feels a bit on the cheap side - not sure it will endure a beating, but I don't plan on doing this anyway. Overall for the money, these get top marks - I doubt very much you will find a set of phones that come close to this for less than $100. Thanks AudioTechnica for not breaking the bank for these gems.

These headphones are great for the price. The sound is well balanced. Great for mids and treble. I find a lot of headphones are heavy with the bass and drown out the mids and treble; that's not the case with these.
They are very comfortable to wear for extended periods. As someone who wears glassed, these are great because they don't press the arms of my glasses into my head like cheaper headphones.
These don't have the detachable cable like the M40X and M50X models. I can see how that would be a nice feature. Not a necessary feature, but a nice one.
I highly recommend these headphones.
