The beautiful scenery of Tianjin's Ning Garden and Haihe River, as well as the lively and colourful folk culture of this Chinese city (also known as Jingu), made such an impression on Chen Yi that she developed four of these scenes into a 12-minute solo work. Jingu Suite, commissioned by and written in 2018 for cellist Siwen Wang, was adapted for viola in 2024.The suite's scenic movements are titled The Ning Garden, The Stilt-walking, Dance with Flying Cymbals, and The Haihe River.
