In a classical sense Blue Caprice is a 20th Century form of a Passacaglia or Chaconne on the chord structure and form of the Blues. If one doesn't have an idea of what these are, it can lead to many misinterpretations. You don't have to make a life study of it but you should have an idea of what a "Blues" consists of in it's basic form and harmonic structure.
