A joyful introduction to the art of singing, written with the needs of beginning singers in mind.

With a "Sing First, Talk Later" approach, The Singing Book gets students singing from the very first day. The fourth edition includes twenty-six new songs in various styles by composers of diverse backgrounds, crucial updates for vocal health and resources, and a new guide to the International Phonetic Alphabet.

Combining a fun, simple introduction to basic vocal technique with confidence-building exercises and imaginative repertoire, The Singing Book teaches beginners the vocal skills they need to get started, gives them exciting music to sing, and provides the tools they need to develop the voice and keep it healthy. This classic text is perfect for instructors of group voice in higher education settings as well as private studio instruction.

Cynthia Vaughn is a respected singer, voice teacher, and clinician who has coauthored four editions of The Singing Book with Meribeth Dayme. She developed and taught university and community group-voice classes and was previously on the voice faculty of Colorado State University.

Meribeth Dayme (19382019) was a prominent author and presenter on voice and anatomy worldwide. Her books include The Singing Book (with Cynthia Vaughn), Dynamics of the Singing Voice, The Performer's Voice, and The Essentials of CoreSinging: A Joyful Approach to Singing and Voice Pedagogy.

Matthew Hoch is professor of voice at Auburn University. He currently services as chair of the NATS Books editorial board, editor of the NATS So You Want to Sing book series, associate editor of the "Voice Pedagogy" column for the Journal of Singing, and editor of the "On the Voice" column for the ACDA Choral Journal.
