Cherry Classics Concerto - Wagenseil/Bryan - Trombone/Classical Wind Ensemble - Score/Parts
Additional Photos:
Composer: Georg Christoph Wagenseil
Transcribed: Paul Bryan
Format: Score and Parts
Instrumentation: Trombone with Classical Wind Ensemble
The Wagenseil Concerto is one of the most performed Trombone Concertos due to its beauty, elegance, rich melodic nature and rarity of medium. Finally, a wonderful transcription for a Classical style Wind Ensemble set by Paul Bryan, retired Professor of Music from Duke University.
In 1968 while on research in the archives of the former residence of Bishop Karl Liechtenstein von Kastelkorne in the Czech town of Kromeriz, Paul Bryan discovered the two movement Concerto for Trombone by Georg Christoph Wagenseil. Dr. Bryan always felt there had to be some solos from the Classical period for Trombone and it was only a matter of time before they were discovered. The work has been scored for Chamber Orchestra, but this is the first time the work has been set for Classical Wind Ensemble.
The instrumentation is for Solo Trombone (Alto and Tenor parts are supplied) 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 3 Clarinets, Bassoon, 2 Horns, Bass Clarinet, Contra Bass Clarinet, String Bass and Contra Bass E-flat Alto Clarinet.
