The first System 55, 35 and 15 synth modules came out in the early '70s and tended to be extremely expensive. They were mainly all discrete transistor designs as op-amps at the time were very high cost. The discrete circuitry gave the modules a very distinctive sound and were used by artists like Keith Emerson, Stevie Wonder, Tangerine Dream and so many more, giving us some of the greatest records we've ever heard. Modular synths were a landmark development in electronic music and today, it's about to get better.

SYSTEM 55
Behringer is bringing back all those amazing modular synths that you've all come to know and love and they're putting them in one neat package that'll surely blow you away. Enter the Behringer SYSTEM 55. This is a pre-assembled "System 55" modular synthesizer that comes packed with 38 of their vintage sounding synth modules, mounted and fully powered in two super-sturdy EURORACK GO cases. It even comes with some extra space for another one of our favorite things...more modules!

The Ultimate Synth!
The SYSTEM 55 is an amazing tool for those who want the ultimate modular synthesizer capable of fully scoring that next cyberpunk or sci-fi movie from start to finish. This entire setup comes equipped with a 914 FIXED FILTER BANK which features 12 active bandpass filters ranging from 125 Hz to 5.6 kHz with additional Low Pass and High Pass filters and one 923 FILTER MODULE with separate Low and High Pass filters each with their own dedicated frequency cutoff controls and jacks for both pink and white noise. But that's only the start, with the SYSTEM 55 comes with so many more modules, you're sure to have hours and hours of fun creating beats that you can just lose yourself in.

All the VCAs and Envelope Generators!
Is having one VCA a bit too limiting? Then, worry no more as the SYSTEM 55 features five 902 VOLTAGE CONTROLLED AMPLIFIERS with three summed CV inputs and dual audio inputs and outputs. Each module also comes with a rocker switch that allows you to toggle between linear and logarithmic response modes while you can manually set the control voltage with the Fixed Control Voltage knob. Need more envelope generators? The SYSTEM 55 also comes with four 911 ENVELOPE GENERATORS allowing you to create a deeply contoured signal with each of their 4 independent controls for Attack (T1), Decay (T2), Release (T3) and Sustain times from 2 ms up to 10 seconds. Create snappy and percussive sounds or long evolving drones perfect for a funky groove or a brooding soundtrack to your latest techno thriller.

A Step in the Right Direction
A step sequencer has always been at the heart of every synthesizer setup, so of course we had to include one. The 960 SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER is an 8-step sequencer with 3 rows of CV controls for adjusting the pitch of a signal at that stage. An additional 9th step can also be used to stop the sequence. More variations can be achieved by switching any of the desired Stage Mode Switches to Normal, Skip or Stop. You can even manually trigger each stage by pressing the respective Set button. "But we want more!" we hear you ask, so we decided to include the 962 SEQUENTIAL SWITCH module that transforms the 960 from an 8-step sequencer to a 24-step giant capable of more intricate sequences and beats.

Time to Flex
Adding even more flexibility to the SYSTEM 55, the 961 INTERFACE module converts V-trig to S-trig and vice versa and can even convert any audio source you plug in to a V-trig to drive other modules in your setup. The 903A RANDOM SIGNAL GENERATOR provides two white and pink noise sources that you can patch to other modules in the SYSTEM 55.

There's More!
The SYSTEM 55 also comes with a 992 CONTROL VOLTAGES MODULE that allows you to mix and switch control voltages, 904B HIGH PASS FILTER and 904A VOLTAGE CONTROLLED LOW PASS FILTER and a CM1A MIDI-to-CV converter so you can control the SYSTEM 55 with a MIDI keyboard, sequencer or DAW, to truly round out this rig. Behringer even included a few blank panels in case you want to expand the SYSTEM 55 with even more modules! You don't even have to worry about power as the included EURORACK GO cases come with their own PSUs.

Amazing Gear at an Affordable Price
Whether you're just getting into modular synths or looking to complete your collection, the SYSTEM 55 modular synthesizer from Behringer is a great tool to have when creating amazing music.

Seemingly typical Behringer quality though the Eurorack GO cases felt surprisingly solid. Knobs on modules felt pretty good and turned smoothly but the switches and jacks, being mounted directly on the board instead of the chassis, felt flimsy and not particularly robust. I especially felt like the jacks would definitely be a point of failure in the future (there's a reason they average around $35-50). Straight out of the box, top case failed to power up. Switch felt REALLY loose, like it could push through, so I doubt it was soldered properly, if at all. Residue on the back around switch and power jack that looked like some sort of dried adhesive. Sounded like loose screws rattling around the inside of the case (was not the sound of the cheap sliding nuts, which are a different issue all on their own). Didn't even bother to open up and investigate, just returned it. I was really excited to own this setup but it's far too expensive to have so many issues right out of the box. Can build a very usable modular system for what this costs, which is what I'll be doing with my refund. Will avoid Behringer in the future for a myriad of reasons. I would give zero rating if possible. Too cheap to be so pricey.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
