Composer: Franz Schubert
Editor: Werner Aderhold
Format: Parts Set, Urtext Edition
Instrumentation: String Quartet
Robert Schumann was one of the first to pay tribute to the previously little-known composer Franz Schubert in his "Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik". In a review on the occasion of a quartet evening in 1838, he wrote about the quartet "Death and the Maiden", which is presented here in the part edition with the original text of the New Schubert Edition: "Only the excellence of a work like Schubert's in D minor ... can offer some consolation about the early and most painful death of Beethoven's first-born son; He accomplished and accomplished in a short time, better than anyone before him."
