Additional Photos:
Composer: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy
Editor: Howard A. Cohen
Format: Score and Parts
Instrumentation: 4 Flutes
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) wrote the incidental music for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" almost twenty years after his famous overture of the same name, about which one of the composer's letters states: "Today or tomorrow I want to start dreaming the Midsummer Night's Dream". The Scherzo from the stage music is considered a masterpiece which perfectly invokes the elf Puck of the comedy with playful brilliance. This arrangement involves each of the four voices equally in the musical content and offers flautists the opportunity to perform this attractive piece using the creative possibilities of their instrument.
