Rhapsody On Doraji Taryeong is based on a Korean folk song and is one of the most popular folk songs among both North Koreans, South Koreans, and the ethnic Koreans who reside in China. Doraji is the name for the plant Platycodon Grandiflorus (known as the "balloon flower" for native English speakers).
In its original form, the refrain is sung between each verse. In this rhapsodic version, the melody is passed between different instruments, highlighted by varied accompanying figures with each iteration before reaching the refrain, wherein the lyrics translate to: "There at the foot of the mountains, the balloon flowers move to-and-fro."
