The story of "Greeny" is shrouded in mystery, but few guitars are as illustrious. Greeny is one of the most iconic original Les Paul Standards ever made, with a unique sound as recognizable as the guitar itself. Previously owned by Peter Green, it was used throughout his time with Fleetwood Mac and later sold to Gary Moore, who used it for three decades with Thin Lizzy and as a solo artist. Now owned by Kirk Hammett, Greeny has passed through the hands of three legendary guitarists. Its distinctive sound is partly from the out-of-phase middle switch position due to the neck pickup's reversed magnetic polarity. The Kirk Hammett "Greeny" Les Paul Standard was inspired by this legendary guitar and gives players around the world the opportunity to experience some of the magic of "Greeny" for themselves. An Original Series hardshell case is included.

As king of make much music, I like all kinds of guitars - Gibsos, Fenderes, and as a big rock and rolling wild guy, I tried this famous guitar of Kurt Hammett. Wow, as studio or play in local guitar accordion festivals, this would make a clear number choice. My ES-339 might be a better choice for weight, but Greens is a great Less Paul!

I have been extremely critical of Gibson for many years. I still think they've got their own issues. But nothing else sounds like a Les Paul, sorry. The top on mine and many others I've seen looks higher grade than AAA. With the natural back and sides it's gorgeous. I wasn't planning to buy a guitar that day but this guitar clicked with me in such a way that I couldn't conceive a life where I left the store WITHOUT this instrument. The greenybuckers are exceptional pickups, set your amp's EQ at 12 o'clock and you'll see what mean. Whether playing clean, edge of breakup, gobs-o-gain they're nicely balanced and everything a good Les Paul needs to sound like. It's expensive, if I were to buy a PRS or some other bougie brand that looked, played and sounded this good I'd be up around $7500. This was $4500. The easiest way to describe it is that it's more than the sum of its parts. Truly. Gibson has made me a fan. Thanks folks!

What to like? The top on mine is an absolute stunner, definitely worth the price upcharge over a regular Standard LP. The unique custom pickups are excellent, bright & articulate, with out that annoying piercing. The middle pickup is very Strat like and much better than a typical coil tap pickup. Setup and playability were perfect right out of the box. The neck is a large '59 style but very comfortable to play and the satin finish makes for super smooth playing. I love the satin finish but you might be disappointed if you were hoping for a gloss. My one negative is the colour of the back of the guitar, I wish they did it in a cherry red. Overall this is a top notch Les Paul Standard with super AAA tops and a killer set of pickups.

I was so pumped when this came out as I could never afford the Murphy lab version. It's a very well built guitar. The greeny pickups sound amazing, the AAA flame top is beautiful. I gave it a 4 for value because outside of the the pick ups and the AAA finish its essentially a faded 50s standard. I would have loved if it came with a signature case or a signature trc to mark it as a greeny.

So, you want a Greeny, but didn't want to ante up the $60,000 US to have dinner and a movie with Kirk? No? Didn't think the sheer ridiculousness of the $26,600 version was worth it, either? Well! Great news! There is a bargain for Greeny fans. The main difference is the neck - whilst the very overpriced versions have replicated neck shapes, the Standard version has - oh, forbid - a 1959 neck profile. Not having the price of a car to compare the two, I really don't know the difference. I picked up my Greeny today from L&M Vancouver (Terminal), and can confirm that apart from the Murphy aging, that at 85% less in price, why WOULDN'T you jump at this version? Same Greenybucker pickups, and out of phase reverse neck pickup. Satin finish gives a lovely semi-worn in finish. And I saved enough money to visit anywhere in the world, first class - multiple times over. Four stars for features for not replicating the neck. Not that I would notice, honestly.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
