There is something magical about the sound and versatility of a powerful, twin-twelve tube combo that has made them the staple of almost every major guitarist's amp lineup since they were introduced over 50 years ago. Yorkville was there in the early 1970's with their groundbreaking Traynor "Mark III" and today they remain at the top of so many players' must-have lists thanks to the Custom Valve 80.

Designed and manufactured by Yorkville Sound in Pickering, Ontario, the YCV80 offers all-tube power and versatile features while maintaining the reliability and value Traynor users expect. Two new tone-shaping controls give players an unprecedented variety of vintage tube sounds. A 'Scoop' switch on the lead channel adds body for much heavier solos and power chords, while the clean channel's 'Expander' switch equalizes certain frequencies to create new, crystal clear rhythm sounds nearly simulating an acoustic-like tone.

There are more features on the channels. For example, each of them has its own set of three tone controls. Add to that a Boost button on the lead channel which is overridden by the footswitch to spotlight solos and a Brightness button on the clean channel to sparkle up the high end for country licks or vintage R&R tones.

Masters include volume and Reverb, the latter driving a lush-sounding Accutronics long-spring line. The volume Master then makes sure everything comes out the speakers at the right level.

There are more features on the back panel. A new DynaSound circuit is on both the XLR Line output and the 1/4-inch Line/Headphone output. Its effect makes the amp come through the PA, recording medium or stereo phones sounding much more like a miked-up cabinet than a regular line out. And while we're on that subject, there is also a Speaker Defeat button for silent practicing or recording. There are also two Effects patches, one parallel, the other serial. The serial patch is a single 1/4-inch TRS Loop Thru jack (Apex A206SPY insert cable is optional) for processing such as a compressor, volume pedal, etc. The parallel loop has separate Send and Return jacks, each with its own Trim pot for better control over effects drive and mix for chorus, echo, distortion, etc. And of course there is an Extension Speaker jack (YCX212 extension cabinet sold separately). And then, to make sure driving four, twelve-inch speakers is totally within its safe limits, the Custom Valve 80's output stage has been designed to operate at full power into as little as two Ohms overall speaker impedance.

Look in the back and you'll see the YCV80 has a quartet of matched 5881/6L6 power tubes held securely in place with spring-anchored chrome retainers. Inside the chassis, safely shielded from accidents, static and hum fields are three 12AX7/7025 preamp tubes. Look down and you will see a pair of Celestion's high-power, 7080 twelve-inch guitar speakers. And all around this tone monster is multi-ply wood (chipboard NOT allowed) - covered in durable black Bronco leatherette.

Features:
- All tube construction with 4 x 5881, 3 x 12AX7A tubes
- Dual, 12 inch Celestion 70/80 speakers
- Separate tone controls for clean and drive channels
- Scoop switch on lead channel for heavy, boutique amp lead sound
- Expander switch on rhythm channel for unique variations of clean tone
- DynaSound speakers compensated XLR direct output
- DynaSound compensated headphone output
- Parallel effects loop with trim controls on input and output
- Internal Speaker defeat switch for silent practice or direct recording
- DC powered filament supply on preamp tubes for reduced hum
- Autobalancing bias supply means no need for matched pairs of output tubes or bias adjustments
- Long Accutronics reverb springs for authentic vintage sound
- Fully regulated power supply for ultra low noise
- Conservatively driven output for extended tube life
- Additional loop-through serial effects loop 80, great big loud tube watts, not the little tiny solid state ones

Two-button Channel Select/Boost footswitch is included

It sounds good, really good. Wasted the last 20 years trying dozens of amps tube, solid state and vintage. This amp shines in the bunch. Sure it’s 80 watts which seems scary loud but the master volume is absolutely usable, it sounds great turned down. The overdrive and boast circuits sound KILLER very useful tones. Only thing I might upgrade is the speakers from the seventy80s provided. They don’t sound bad but I know better ones can take it to the next level. Hidden gem/sleeper amp. Don’t tell your friends shhhh keep it a secret. I’d grab another one for a stereo rig if the opportunity comes up.

I gigged regularely and intensively with this amp for 22 years with a loud rock band . This ``BABY`` never let me down once!! NEVER! I had a Marshall JCM 60 that still gives me nightmares...!!! The Traynor YCV 80 (2x12) is the BEST AMP i ever had. This ROCK MACHINE is meant to be played LOUD! Thanks Traynor!

I just picked this beast up today, and I'm wowed at it's performance. I have used a Fender Deville, Peavey Delta Blues, and a Line6 amp (don't remember the model ) in the past and this amp is WAY better in my opinion. I would say that even though this is different, it is just as tasty as my old Peavey 5150 half stack. On the Deville the dirt channels is pure s**t. The drive channel on this is very usable. I would say it sounds better than my Wampler Pinnacle dirt pedal. The clean channel takes pedals VERY well, but I don't know how many I will end up keeping since this amp sounds so good with just a guitar, cord, and amp. I'm very glad that I chose this over the Deville that I was looking at....... Oh yah, and this thing is LOUD! Probably close to as loud as a Twin cranked wide open. This is the best amp that I've had since I foolishly sold my JTM45 full stack back in the early '80s , but this has more tonal range than the JTM.

Had this monster for a while. Very Twin-like with great overdrive, build quality, and feature set. It's designed to be loud. And clean. Traded it for a YCV50.

I bought one of these used for about $400, have owned it for almost 10 years now and I will never really need another amp. I've found that quality and consistency in pretty much any traynor amp I ever tried too. Great amps, great tone and solidly built. Made right here in canada too! Can't think of anything negative to say about this beast. I'm so glad I didn't have to spend an outrageous amount of money on a twin, for example.

Amazing amp. Finally got the tone I was looking for with this amp. Right now I'm running a Gretsch Pro Jet through this and it sounds amazing. This amp has a lot of bass so its perfect for playing rythem guitar parts and its great for playing lead if you take some of bass out so it cuts through the other instruments if your playing in a band. Absolutely love this amp and would recommend it to anyone looking for a professional sounding tone.

Let's start with the cabinet. Solidly constructed from plywood, not glue and sawdust like some other amps. Electronics. All PCB but that's not a drawback in my opinion. The biggest deal maker for me was the fact that there are very, very few repair threads or complaints about this amp on the web. Which means that you can anticipate long trouble free service life out of it. Traynor's warranty and service are second to none IF you need them. It just plain works, and works well. Beautiful Twin-ish cleans with the bright switch on and Bassman-ish with it off. And, a Dirt channel that has a wide range of tones from soft crunch to chainsaw buzz. Comparable to amps twice it's price. Just an excellent amplifier and a great value. Strongly recommended.

If you are looking for an amp to use in house and on gigs this is it. Amazing features, amazing sound!!! nothing can touch this in its price range. I have owed almost every ycv series amp and this one in its 212 version is absolutely the best. So many tonal options, plus a headphone jack and mic line out. Buy it Buy it Buy it!!!!

This amp sounds amazing clean. Top end boost sound with lots of punch and huge headroom. If you want a classic clean twin kinda sound, this amp delivers. I've heard lots of complaints about the overdrive/boost channel , and I can't figure out why. Voice it with the tubes of your choice and use the 3 band EQ correctly and look out! This beast can throw out gain like crazy! I play in a country band on Tuesdays, a top 40 band on Thursdays, and a modern heavy rock band on Sundays....this amp covers them all like it was made for each. The scoop switch gives it a modern type of voicing and fits right in with the triple rectifier crowd. Volume wise I have no problem in a room with Marshall and Mesa stacks. Not a British, brown, orange or American sound, but a Canadian sound all my own! Love it! Highly recommended for pure tube tone enthusiasts.

i bought this baby used and got a great deal,it has the usual no standby issue these amp's are notorious for but that's not a biggy, turn it down and shut it off. this amp comes alive with some better speakers like vintage 30's,greenbacks or any higher quality speaker brutally changes the tone for the better, its a night and day improvement.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
