The Canadian-made YCV40WR is very much the same electronically as the award-winning YCV40, but with upgrades such as rich, wine red leatherette covering, matching oatmeal grille cloth over a metal mesh grill and Celestion's renowned Vintage 30 speaker. Combined, these upgrades help give the YCV40WR a rich "boutique" look, sound and feel while maintaining the channel-switching versatility that helped sweep Traynor back into the forefront of the tube amp world in 2000.

The three basic tones (clean, crunch and overdrive) are easily tuned in with no rocket science required. You get Gain and Volume on the lead channel and conventional Volume on the clean one with a master, 3-way tone stack plus Presence and Reverb masters. That's pretty much it except for a Boost button to pump up lead channel solos (also footswitchable) and a Brightness button to sparkle-up the clean channel's highs. As a result you get great tone at low levels with tons of shine and punch at full tilt.

Silence is Golden... Although signal-to-noise is not normally a specification that is discussed where guitar amplifiers are concerned, the ultra-quiet Custom Valve 40WR makes it worth mentioning. Even die-hard studio pros appreciate the auto-matching tube circuit that maintains bias balance as tubes age, ensuring hum free performance with the amp miked-up. In addition, DC filaments on the preamp tubes and their in-chassis shielding all but eliminate preamp hum - a major bonus when direct-lining the amp into a recording or PA desk. Remarkably, all this golden silence comes at no cost to the amp's potentially monstrous drive levels, a major feat of tube circuit engineering.

In 2017 I went to the Markham L & M, not sure which amp I was looking for. The amazing staff kept bringing me amps of various brands to try. I kept coming back to the Traynor YCV40WR which came home with me. I have enjoyed this amp for six years. The two channels give a range of tones. I get sweet clean tones from one channel. For the type of music I play, the lead channel gives me great crunch and overdrive without using pedals. The construction of this unit is solid and it has given me no issues. The wine red leatherette covering and oatmeal grill look awesome. Thanks Traynor!

I have the WR with the extension cab. Cannabis Rex instead of the V-30's and this rig sings, I absolutely love it. Works so well with pedals and the loop is perfect. Just a solid little amp. The wine red tolex is really nice.

Overall a wonderful amp for basement jams and small to medium size gigs. Started to lose some volume after a few years of light use and had to get it serviced. Use it at gigs now instead of hauling my twin reverb around

I’ve owned my Traynor YCV20WR for over 5 years now with absolutely no issues. Sounds perfect clean, and the brightness switch on the clean channel is specifically nice. It also sounds perfect driven. I’ve read on some forums online that some people dislike the dirty channel on this amp but I can’t understand why. I’ve a/b compared the amp’s drive with various OD pedals and I always prefer the amp’s drive. Overall this is a stellar amplifier.

I returned to using a tube amp after playing with an effects rack during theafte amp was a Traynor yc4but I bled the speAker. I couldn't get the spk replaced so I got a Fender Deville that worked great. That amp developed an intermittent problem so I govt another Traynor Yc40 which is a better amp.

I have owned Fender amps 64 and 65 Deluxe reverb and Bassman. You know how great the sound is from the vintage amps. I had never heard of the Traynor amps. I pluged into this one and I said Wow to my self. A fender amp would cost alot more . This is a real bargain. It has alot to offer for the money spent. I had Clintronics go through my amp in Richmond, Va. I retubed it with JJ's for a warmer sound. You cannot use the reverb on 10 because of hum and feed back. Clint told me that because of the speaker was so close to the reverb tank. He did say the amp had alot of head room and was quality built like a tank. I would have given this review a 5 on everything if the reverb could stay at 10 for some songs I play but have to drop back to 7 on reverb. I have owned this amp for years. It's a 2009 model. Bought a new cover and the cover is sharp looking. Steve

Amazing Canadian-made amp. I ditched an old Line6 amp and got this one. It literally woke my 2008 Les Paul right up. It sounds so good, that you'll want to practice a lot more.

Great sounds couldn't have asked for anything better then this. It just blew me away with how great it sounded with my guitar. At the moment I can't see myself buying another brand of amp after having used this.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
