Got an original release window 1 purposely as a learning platform. If not known, the amp is what is going to make you sound big. Good news is stock, this axe will do what is needed AFTER the neck is examined & frets are QC'd where needed. So maybe a few hundred $ more on top, or see if the guitars in the $600 range come fret leveled. Honestly, that's the best help for a beginner. Shouldn't have a neck add question to techique learning curves. You may spend more $ chasing non-solutions in pedals or other auxiliary gear, not helping to enjoy playing. The luthier can only compromise so much in a setup (very well I will add). As a kit platform, can't even order a neck & body for the $. As a learning experience to upgrade & not worry over DIY hiccups being costly, superb. I've made a tonal Swiss Army Axe that has a stamp of an entry guitar. It's priceless to me, worthless to gear snobs & very useful to any player. PERFECT.

It's an adequate guitar for a beginner, or for someone not wanting to spend a bunch of money to get into the hobby. It sounds and plays like a guitar almost 2x the price, but has a very obvious 60hz hum while not being used. This was on all of my amplifiers, and turned out to be a grounding issue which apparently is a very common theme with this guitar. Save another $50 and go with a fender squier strat.

For the price, overall decent value. Pickups are ok, finish all looks good. Maple board has a fair amount of figuring, for those who find those things important. Seems to hold tuning well. Two cons, first there's a fair amount of fret sprout, these definitely need to be filed. Second, the tuners are frankly horrible. Very stiff, they'll need replacing. Overall, not bad for the price but definitely a lower end Kramer. One other note, if you online order the Teal finish, the actual color is considerably different than what's depicted in the ad picture. Still a niçe color but in my opinion closer to a surf green than a true teal.

After receiving this EXACT guitar, I opened it, tuned it, strummed it once and it was out... Tuned.. Repeated for an hour, then realized the tuners/machine heads were CRAP! Ordered and replaced. New strings and BAM! C'mon Kramer! For an extra $10 you COULD have made a winner... Put GOOD tuners on!!!

This is literally the first review I have left on anything. This guitar is off the charts good, I couldn’t not leave a review. Neck is great, setup perfect, zero fret buzz on any fret, perfect intonation! Fairly “hot” pickups but man it sounds and plays soooooo good. For 209$ And like any colour you could think of, you’d be crazy not to buy one! I own wayyyyyy too many guitars and this is by far the best bang for your buck. Just buy one. Stop reading reviews and buy one.

So, I used to play guitar, but stopped for about 15 years or so (life getting in the way), and when I recently started needing to play again, I picked up this gem. First of all, the build quality and materials are pretty stellar. The product description tells you all the particulars, but there are some specific notes I can contribute. The fret ends were perfect on my particular guitar... no snagging, everything filed down smooth and super-playable. The pickups are great, and have really good definition at all 5 settings. The fit and finish is incredible, paint work (I have the teal) looks like it should be on a much more expensive guitar. I love that the headstock is painted to match the body, and that the neck is not painted to match (it's just a satin-esque coat to seal, and doesn't grab your hand when moving around the neck). I read a lot of online reviews before my purchase that describe how terrible the tuning keys are, so I was prepared to replace them soon after buying... but then mine were actually pretty good, good enough to leave on the guitar. I will note that these cannot be tightened or taken apart, so I dropped the Quality score down to a 4. However, I do stay in tune, and that's really all the thought I give to the tuning machines. The guitar, right out of the box, was pretty decently setup already. I did have my local Long & McQuade do a setup on the guitar about a month after buying it, but only because I wanted to start getting back into playing with as ideal a setup as possible. All that said, I'd highly recommend this if you're looking for an affordable/spare/starter/platform guitar.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
