The Fender® American Vintage II series presents a remarkably accurate take on the revolutionary designs that altered the course of musical history. Built with period-accurate bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes and meticulously voiced, year-specific pickups, each instrument captures the essence of authentic Fender craftsmanship and tone.

Just one year after launching the Broadcaster, Fender received a cease-and-desist telegram from the Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co. and was faced with renaming its flagship electric guitar. Taking inspiration from the booming growth and expansive reach of television, the first blackguard Telecaster rolled off the line in 1951, and the model has been in continuous production ever since. Deceptively simple and totally groundbreaking, the Telecaster brought the solid body electric guitar to the masses, inspiring countless musicians along the way.

The American Vintage II 1951 Telecaster features an ash body finished in Butterscotch Blonde to capture the tone and look of the original. The substantial '51 "U"-shaped hard rock maple neck plays like a dream with a 7.25" radius fingerboard and vintage tall frets. Characteristic of production in 1951, 12th fret face-dot spacing is narrow and the sole Phillips-head fastener on the guitar is at the truss rod nut. The triple brass saddle bridge, single-line "Fender Deluxe" tuners and Pure Vintage '51 Telecaster pickups deliver classic twang and authentic Fender style.

I've owned a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe for over 40 years, and also have a Fender American Stratocaster, but always wanted a Fender Telecaster. I played this one for a long time at the shop before deciding it was "the" one, and am still enamored with it after a year. Was worried about the fatter neck - but somehow it works for me.

You pay the man at the store and drive home all excited about your latest guitar purchase. You come home, open the classic tweed hardshell case, and you're basking in the bright red glow of the soft inside padding of the case. Surely, this is how a custom shop case must feel like, you think. The intoxicating smell of nitrocellulose is overwhelming your senses as you pick up the guitar close to you, and take a deep breath in. Ahhhhh. You plug it into your clean amp setting and just from the first few chords, you can tell this guitar is special. Yes, it's a bit heavy, but it just sounds so...genuine. It's as if the sounds you're hearing were completely foreign to you. The tone transcends all of your expectations. You turn up the grit on your sound and start playing some blues licks, and the guitar keeps on giving. While still in disbelief, you go to your heavy overdriven settings you'd normally use an Ibanez or a Gibson with, but this Tele still won't give up. It STILL sounds better than any of your other guitars! You wonder how can something with such a thick baseball-bat neck and 7.25" radius play so well. Is it the large, chunky frets that allow bending with no choke-out? How can it be so perfectly in tune and intonated with only 3 classic brass saddles? The best part is, you begin to realize that this guitar somehow INSPIRES you to create brand new licks and riffs within seconds every time you pick it up. It's as if it's possessed by some sort of magick and makes you write musical melody you didn't know you were capable of. If someone asked you to pick the guitar you like best from all your other guitars, it would be a very difficult choice to make but this, this is in a class of its own. It's simply the best guitar in your collection - without a slightest doubt. It's the one you'd save from a fire, if you could only rescue one. It will relic naturally over the years as you play it, no need to pay for a custom shop relic when you can write your own story into this brand new guitar. It will be your companion as you explore your musical journey together.

Beautiful guitar in every aspect. Sounds amazing, plays amazing, feels amazing and the butterscotch blonde looks amazing! I was initially hesitant because of of video reviews stating the neck being chunky and big but once I picked it up in store and started playing I didn't find it very big at all. The neck felt great in my hand as I played. I believe it's worth every penny and would recommend that if you're looking for a Telecaster you most definitely have to check this one out!

While there have been many incarnations of the fabled Tele, some great, some not so great, Fender has clearly hit a home run with this one. The fit and finish is on par with a custom shop build, at half the price. I think they did a great job on the finish tint. It resembles what an instrument, or a piece of furniture would look like if it wasn't all banged up, but was 70 years old. Well done, Fender. My neck was not the least bit stocky, as suggested in some videos, and the profile fits my large hands like a glove. String bending is a breeze as well. I was surprised at how much I like all three PU positions. I was not expecting to spend much time in the bridge position, and since buying it yesterday, that's pretty much where it has stayed. It's a guitar that can cover a lot of musical bases, country, rock, blues, soul, jazz, probably anything that you could throw at it. Mine was new out of the box, so I'm not sure exactly when it was built (I haven't checked the serial number). I felt I had to do a proper set up on it as the action was high (even by using Fender's recommended string height). I don't fault Long & McQuade for that. It was the first time attempting a neck adjustment on a vintage style neck, so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but after watching a few videos on how to take the neck off, my confidence rose. With a steady hand and some newly acquired knowledge, it turned out to be a breeze. Curvature is how I like if (fairly low action) and the string action after a minor adjustment with the brass saddles, is perfect. It's a time piece guitar, and sits perfectly beside my Custom Shop Strat and my Custom Shop Les Paul R9. Where have you ben al my life, Tele?

I have been playing since 1986 and have always dreamed of getting that special Gibson gold top but could never afford it ,fast forward to 2023 and I now have a little bit of money and can afford the payments and was doing shopping on this web site and was getting ready to get that high end Gibson, by complete accident looked at Fenders on this site and saw the 51 spec'd Telecaster, it only took me a couple of days to know that was what I was looking for, I immediately fell in love with it, had it sent to me and immediately connected to it ,I have never played anything so nice the neck is perfect and I have small hands, it plays and sounds like nothing I have ever played before and it's worth every bit of 3 grand and more in my view

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
