Composer: Martha Hill Duncan
Format: Sheet Music
Instrumentation: Piano Duet (1 Piano, 4 Hands)
A quirky and showy jazz duet with strong syncopation, melody and equality through the parts. Works well for Grade 8/9 or strong Gr. 7 students.
Inspired by a pencil drawing by Spencer Hope of hollyhocks growing in the historic city of Kingston, Ontario, these "over the top" garden blooms are bold and brash with their large colourful flowers and sturdy stalks. Many of them can be seen growing against abandoned fences and barns, often outliving the gardeners who first planted them. HOLLYHOCKS was written for two former piano students Emily and Kaleigh, who like these "forever" flowers will always be "forever" friends. This duet was designed to highlight each player equally, so don't be shy...
