Crussel was Finnish born, but lived and worked most of his life in Sweden. He was a very accomplished clarinettist and composer, writing a number of solo and chamber works for his chosen instrument. This piece, based on a well-known Swedish drinking song was originally entitled Variationer pa visan: Goda gosse, glaset tom (Variations on the song: "Dear boy, empty the glass")
