Road-tested in arenas around the world, the Wolfgang® Special is a purebred music-making machine, designed with stunning style, giant sound and high-speed playability.

The Wolfgang Special features a basswood body with an arched top and a robust graphite-reinforced bolt-on quartersawn maple neck. The neck is carved and rolled to Eddie Van Halen's exacting specifications and features a hand-rubbed urethane back finish. Primed for high performance, energetic riffing and blazing leads, the 12"-16" compound radius ebony fingerboard has 22 jumbo frets and pearloid dot inlays. Truss rod adjustments have also never been easier thanks to a spoke wheel conveniently located at the base of the neck.

A pair of flagship custom designed black EVH® Wolfgang Alnico 2 humbucking pickups are mounted directly to the body, providing dynamic yet articulate voicing, as well as endless sustain for powerful chords and melody lines. A sturdy and dependable EVH-branded Floyd Rose® locking trem and Floyd Rose locking nut work in tandem for precise tuning even with extreme changes in pitch, while the EVH D-Tuna® retunes to drop-D and back with strict accuracy at the flick of a finger. The volume knob with treble bleed circuit has a 500K EVH Bourns® low friction pot for smooth swells and a tone control knob with a 250K Bourns high friction tone pot that prevents accidental tone shifting. Spotlight-ready, the Wolfgang Special is now available in an all-new Satin Surf Green finish with cream body binding, color matched headstock and chrome hardware.

Ive owned this guitar for about a year and decided its time for a review. I stumbled upon it and decided to play it for fun with 0 intention of buying it. 30 min later I took it home. Ofcourse, it plays all the EVH your heart desires with ease, pickups are hot and harmonic, neck is fast and smooth with an amazing shape that just fits in your hand. Floyd Rose is a hit and miss... tuning stability and divebombs galore, but I miss the strat like wobble you cant get on these (due to flat mount and non-recessed bridge) The biggest surprise to me was how WELL it handles blues, cleans, and edge of breakup tones! The mojo this guitar has is undeniable!!! Definitely pick one up and try it out if you see it in store, you wont be disappointed!

I converted mine to a metal monster guitar. CONS: No HSC included. Bridge pickup is weak for metal chugging. replaced tremolo block to a 42mm L brass block. add killswitch to have that tom morello EVH style.

You can tell the EVH Wolfgang line is designed by a guitarist, everything about this screams performance and quality. The fit and finish on the one I bought is exceptional and it plays and sounds great. I have two Les Pauls, a JS 1200 and a JS 1000 and this EVH stands up to all of them and out performs in some aspects. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star rating on value is because it doesn't come with a case, or even a gig bag.

Pleasantly surprised by how nice the guitar is out of the box. It was even in tune which was almost weird. Set up nicely and I'll be surprised if there's much for L&M to do when I bring it in for the complimentary set up. The guitar has hot pickups and I found the three way pickup selection switch to provide great tones in all cases ( often I find I never use the rhythm pickup on some guitars - too muddy ). The neck is very nice and comfortable. The finish on the back of the neck makes your hand glide easily. The neck has a Strat feel at the bottom and slowly becomes a shredd'ers neck as you make your way up. The tremelo is fantastic and really stays in tune well. However one thing...You can't pull up, as you might with other systems. The D-tuna......works...."sort of" Its helpful especially if you're locked in at the nut. But it doesn't also magically go to a perfectly tuned D, and it would be a bit much to expect that to be perfect. Helpful though it is. Its visually beautiful, however the flat black finish on the body scratches fairly easily, so prepare for that. Cost wise - you may also be paying a little extra for the "Eddie" aspect, as I also have other great guitars ( Gretch ) that are equally as awesome for less $$. All in all I am totally happy with this shredding machine of rock. Jazz players are not welcome here :)

Great guitar! I love playing with the d-tuna loads of fun! I was getting some feedback so I lined it with copper and tossed on strap locks and now it's perfect!!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
