I recently bought recorder a couple weeks ago. I posted a review 'Lovely recorder' but then I noticed a few things that could be improved.
1.The finish on some the holes is a bit rough so that could be a bit better.
2. not the most refined tone. It's got a bit or an airy/fuzzy slight tone to it. But personally, I kind of like this. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just if you want a more refined tone maybe this isn't the one for you.
Conclusions:
I still really like this recorder. It sounds lovely and rich. I would still recommend it, but just be aware of a couple imperfections. The case is good and sturdy. It comes with a sample size of cork grease, a fluffy cleaning rod, and a fingering chart with a little instruction manual for how to care for it. Also, because you're not paying top-dollar it's more of a basic wooden model then a professional model. Such as the windway (the little slit at the top of the mouthpiece that you blow into.) being straight and not curved. A curved windway is more for advanced players when a straight one is for beginners. It's not bad, but if you want something to upgrade that's more professional this isn't quite that, but that's not a bad thing and I am no professional. It could also work if you're intermediate. I'm not quite beginner but definitely not intermediate-advanced and this recorder works perfect for me.

I bought this recently and a very much enjoy it. It's great quality and beautiful Maplewood. Sounds better than your average soprano. Lovely rich sound. Kinda pricey for an alto recorder, but it's Maplewood and high quality makes it worth the high price. I would recommend it to those who want an upgrade from the soprano recorder.

I've had this recorder for a few months and I have mixed opinions regarding its value. The one I own is not the original one that I purchased. The original one I purchased had a problem where the foot joint was not cut out correctly and it fit crooked to the body. The Vancouver store helped me by exchanging it for one where the pieces fit better. I also own two Carlton wood soprano recorders and I was very happy with them as they were put together pretty good from the factory (see my reviews of these two). Unfortunately, this was not the case with the alto. The worksmanship was very rough. The sound quality was not too good and the sound broke very easily at the lowest register. I ended up going to a recorder website by Philippe Bolton to learn how to fix it.
Things I did:
1. Added a chamfer to the block and roof as well as reshaped the block.
2. Changed the head profile.
3. Sanded the finger holes.
4. Sanded the inside of the recorder, which was very rough and unfinished.
After having done all that, the recorder sounds much better compared to when I bought it. It sounds clear and it can now be pushed much harder at the lower registers. My advice is, if you want to buy this recorder, be prepared to put in some basic woodworking to get it up to par. If you're not prepared to work on it, I would recommend not buying this recorder. The reason I give this recorder five stars for value is that inexpensive wood recorders are rare.

I wouldn't recommend, if for some reason you really want a wooden Recorder (why pay so much in something so fragile and with limited hours of practice when you have cheap and yet extremely durable and amazing built and sound quality) I suggest buy a Moeck or Mollenhauer. This one is only a waste of money, the cheapest resin Yamaha has a much better sound.

Tried the alto Carlton recorder and found that it has a very week upper register. Definitely not good for an intermediate or advanced player. You get what you pay for.
