Theodore Presser Elegie, Op.10 - Ernst/Fournier - Violin/Piano
Elegie sur la mort d'un objet cheri
Composer: Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst (1812 - 1865)
Arranger: Louis Fournier
Publisher: Editions Combre
A moving and melancholy piece written by one of the greatest violin virtuosos of his time. Considered a successor to the more well-known Niccolo Paganini, their careers overlapped for a number of years. Ernst was quite literally a follower of the older master, attending many of his concerts and sometimes renting adjacent rooms in secret so he could hear him practice. Competing concerts were occasionally held in the same city and audiences felt that Paganini played with perhaps a little greater facility, and Ernst with more emotion and sentiment.
