The SL-1200MK7 is the newest model of the SL-1200 Series, designed from the ground up to provide all that modern day DJs need and want. At the drive section of the MK7 is a coreless direct drive motor. While achieving both stable rotation and powerful torque, this has successfully eliminated a rotation irregularity called cogging, which was the only drawback of the direct drive system. As a result, sound quality was further improved. The pitch control incorporates digital control to achieve improved tracking performance and accuracy. The buttons and tonearm are black to complete the all black design, and the LED light can be set to illuminate in red or blue. A reverse play function has been added to expand the breadth of DJ play style. With those features and functions, the MK7 aims to set a new standard for DJ turntables.

First of all, I have to correct the previous reviewer. This turntable is made in Malaysia, not China. This was done to keep the turntable somewhat affordable (although at $1300, it's still an expensive turntable). In comparison, the top of the SL-1200 line (SL-1200G) is made in Japan and costs about $5,000. However, the differences between the two are not all that major and the performance should be quite similar. Malaysian-made electronics are quite good - I have a 30 year old Kenwood stereo system that was made in Malaysia and still works perfectly to this day.
There have been so many copies of the SL-1200 over the years, but you can immediately tell the difference when you own the real thing. This is one heavy turntable, and everything about it feels so much better than the knock off versions. If you've owned a turntable before, it's super easy to set up, and you'll be up and running in minutes. The biggest part of the setup will be adding a cartridge, since it doesn't come with one pre-mounted (a good thing, as pre-mounted cartridges normally aren't very good). In my case, I already had a cartridge mounted to an older Technics turntable, so I was able to just plug it in and go. If you don't already have a cartridge mounted, it's pretty easy - you can just to make sure that there is 52mm between the base of the cartridge and the stylus. There's also a cheap alignment tool you can purchase to make sure you get it right. I've paired my SL-1200 with the Audio Technica AT-VM95ML which I've found to be a great combination. No inner groove distortion or sibilance distortion of any kind. Although often associated with DJ'ing, the SL-1200 is perfect for home listening, which is what it was originally designed for. This newest version has many improvements that make a legendary turntable even better than it already was. The sweet sound coming from this machine made me feel that it is worth every dollar.
I should also add that the experience of buying the turntable from L&M was very hassle free. The friendly employee even brought it out to my car for me, which was much appreciated.

Very disappointed in the build quality of the turntable Panasonic really cheaped out on the build. Also note that it is now made in China not Japan. I was impressed however with the corless motor and the ability to hold pitch while mixing in between records. I was also impressed with the options to change the colours of the target light. I was not happy with the amount of feed back when playing at high volume definitely not for club use. You would expect at the price of this unit they would have addressed the feedback issues. All in all I feel that Panasonic rushed the build to get it out on the market the proof is in the pudding. Definitely not as solid as it once was back in the day. I ended up selling them.

This is a true DJ Turntable if you grew up with the 1200 series turntable then you know what you have besides redoing the rca cables and cue light they finally make them removable now these are built like a tank You can use these to transfer your vinyl to computer but you are gonna need a USB phono preamp in between there Or you are using a dj program to transfer But i understand why they did not put a usb port They wanted to keep it a true analog turntable if you have the money for them go for it The pitch on these are so amazing good I LOVE THE SOUND OF VINYL the only complaint is the price for 1 WOW$$$$

My first Technics turntable lasted 41 years. It was losing volume and I decided to replace the unit with the latest model for my personal use. I am thrilled to own another Technics and love the new look and design. I have had my new unit for 2 months and thoroughly am impressed with the functionality of the unit.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
