Second Stage Creative Arts Tanglecove: 30 New Canadian Fiddle Tunes - Panting/Rubin - Book/CD
Additional Photos:
Composers: Dave Panting and Dan Rubin
Tanglecove is a delightful collection of 30 original airs, schottishes, waltzes, jigs, reels, freilachs and Newfoundland "singles" written by two well known Canadian folk artists, Dave Panting and Dan Rubin and performed on a range of stringed instruments, accordion, penny whistle and percussion. In the book, each tune is accompanied by chords, a vivid illustration and the story of its creation. A preface by fiddler and teacher Christina Smith (founder of the STEP Fiddlers) and a foreword with notes for string players and music teachers, written by registered music teacher Caryl Clark, add to the usefulness of the book.
This collection will appeal to young players, teachers and performers because of the power and diversity of the tunes. The book also honours major figures in East Coast traditional music: accordionists Art Stoyles, Frank Maher and Stan Pickett, bagpiper Ian McKinnon and fiddlers Emile Benoit, Rufus Guinchard and Seamus Creagh who are recognized for their contributions. The CD which comes with the book presents all thirty tunes in performance.
A great gift for young musicians and anyone who wants to learn some new traditional tunes.
