I love the look and the way this Epiphone Les Paul Special plays. The P90 pick up sound amazing.

I just picked up this guitar today. I was expecting it to be my backup guitar for the $3000 Ultra Telecaster that has been my main guitar for some time. But after a bit of playing with my gear setup today, I think this going to become my main guitar. I have owned many Les Paul’s over my lifetime but I always felt that the tone was too dark, and the guitar itself was too heavy weight wise for gigging, especially as I got older. This guitar with the P90s and slightly less weight is just what I have been looking for all my career.

If you need a variety of tones from one guitar or just want to get into the world of P90s, the Epiphone Les Paul Special can fulfill your desire without the need to pay a fortune. I love my Telecaster and Les Paul Standard, but ever since I got this guitar, I find myself playing it a lot more, even after owning it for about 10 months at the time of review. I spent years eyeing P90 Les Pauls, but when I finally got the chance to try one it managed to significantly exceed my expectations which were already astronomically high; I walked out of the store that day with that same Les Paul Special in my hands. From my experience, this guitar excels at emulating Telecasters and Les Pauls, but it can also do a great Stratocaster neck pickup impression. When I recorded a funky clean part for a song, some other musicians thought I was using a Stratocaster; it was actually recorded using the Les Paul Special's neck pickup. This guitar is great at a variety of genres, but I find it shines when performing Blues and Rock. The neck pickup is warm and articulate, the bridge pickup is bright and punchy. It can do a sparkly clean sound, but I find it comes to life with a little bit of dirt. I've played many guitars during my legacy, but while the others I own took many tests before I bought them, this is the first I immediately bought during the initial impression. I absolutely love this guitar, if you see one I'd highly advise you to give it a go.

Attractive and beautifully assembled. Love the laurel fingerboard. Great pickups that I see no need to replace. Not quite as good as the P90s in my Gibson SG Special, but close enough. A surprisingly great Jazz sound with the tone rolled back. Neck had a backbow, but that was an easy fix. My only complaint is that the nut slots were way too high, which is a shame given the Tusq nut. To address this, you need nut files and a good knowledge of how to do a setup. If you don’t have those things you really should pass it back to the dealer to get it done by a qualified technician.

Great single coil punch I was hoping it was for more than just fashion and it's for function too.

This guitar had great bones. Factory setup was poor (back-bowed neck, high action) and there was some paint blemishes at the neck joint and the bridge posts screw heads were damaged by the wrong screwdriver (also, the pickguard had no protective plastic, no box, no paperwork - so maybe this was damaged by a first owner, returned and sold as new?). But after a setup, it's a great guitar and I can forgive the cosmetics. I rented 5 electric guitars (LP, tele, strat, sg, firebird) for a month each before deciding that I would buy this one.

I got the bolt-on version in July at the L&M in Sudbury. A little cheaper but somewhat nicer in my opinion. You can see the wood grain and it has a beautiful bridge. I may swap out the black pickup covers for chrome ones. Most beautiful guitar I will ever own.

I bought the bolt-on version of this guitar, so it was priced a little cheaper, which is crazy because to me that is a plus over the set neck, but anyway. It was not available to be purchased on line but the kind folks at L&M had the guitar shipped from a store in Sydney, Nova Scotia. They did not have to do that since it was an instore sale but the guys and gals at Long and McQuade are the best..and oh yeah the guitar is freaking awesome..I needed a P90 guitar in my collection and this is the one..wow..it sounds amazing.Thank you L&M!

My first guitar with P90 pickups, I like it a lot. All positive reviews online. At this price it’s a no brainer. I like the new headstock design and love the color. No stock in Alberta and new orders were estimated into August. I was prepared to wait but it showed up in less than a week. I gave the quality a 4.5 because it required a truss rod and action adjustment. No big deal, she plays nice now. I like the fat 50’s neck. Very solid guitar. I now own 3 Epiphone guitars and this doesn’t disappoint.I highly recommend this Special

I haven't been able to put this thing down! I am enamoured with the chunky neck, great overall feel, and much improved electronics. Despite having other higher end guitars, I'm most anxious to play this live once COVID dies down. I highly recommend this guitar. I've played a few other new Epiphones in store and I've also been impressed with them.

This guitar is awesome for the money I started playing 6 years ago learned on a very inexpensive acoustic then upgraded to the old les paul junior with the single humbucker. The sound of the humbuckers was always really dark I always wanted something with more clarity and bite. For years I was looking to get a tele, then all of sudden Epiphone came out with this new range it was exactly what I was looking for. The quality of this guitar is impeccable the only issue with mine is that I went to adjust the truss rod and noticed that there is zero movement in it so I will be taking it to the guitar doctor when this quarantine is over. Other than that highly recommend this.

Epiphone seems to be really hitting it out of the park with these new "Inspired by Gibson" models. After watching several of the NAMM 2020 videos and reviews on this model (especially the review by Danish Pete for a certain UK reseller) I decided to take the plunge and I am definitely happy I did. I ordered it from the Markham location (big thank you to Jenn and Spencer!) and received it a few days later. Love the sound and tone of the P90's on this guitar - I almost bit on the Gibson version a few months earlier but so glad I went with the Epiphone as it is $1500 cheaper and sounds just as good!

I know the description says "TV Yellow" but looks to me more like Butterscotch which is my favourite ice cream. This guitar is simply delicious with a great feel and natural acoustic tone that makes the plugged in sound fantastic in combination with a tube amplifier. I would recommend this guitar to any player looking for an "Old School" rock sound that these P90s deliver, great job Epiphone with this one! Thanks to the staff at Sudbury's Long and McQuade for great service given the challenges with Covid-19.

Well, being a player who has used only humbuckers I must say WOW! Who'd have guessed single coils could rock like this. I plugged her into my fuzz pedals and holy fuzz, sustain for days. I also used it with a Catalin bread Sabra cadabra and man it's Sabbath, in my bedroom. The neighbors are going to hate me even more now. Can't believe the tone from thie gem. Never have I had sweet tones and big crunch cone from one guitar. Definately a keeper. 10/10.

Bought this a month ago. Quickly becoming one of my favorites. Great neck, great sound. Put a set of NYXL's on it and it chimes. Don't see how the Gibson version can be any better for the price difference.

I bought this guitar at the Toronto store, where I was very well attended by the employee. The guitar is sensational. A wonderful and brilliant sound, very good neck, the P-90 pickups are excellent and inexpensive. I recommend this guitar and the store.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
