I recently bought both the Rodecaster Pro II and This Mixcast 4 to determine which was best suited for my use case. Both are outstanding devices but I actually preferred the Mixcast 4. Why? It's by far more intuitive to use and to set up and all of the channels and sound pads are labelled so you dont have to memorize 64 sound effects. The PreAmps on both are super clean and the build quality is solid. One of the things I really appreciated on the Tascam was both Balanced 1/4" monitor outputs and a 3.5mm unbalanced. This for me anyway is a big deal because I use this device as a USB audio interface and my computer monitor speaker is TV Soundbar that only take optical or 3.5 input. On every other interface I've used (including the Rodecaster) that only has balanced outputs, this is a problem because it produces all kinds of hum and noise into the unbalanced input. It was the same issue with Bose Computer Monitor speakers with RCA inputs. My Motu M4 interface has balanced and unbalanced outputs and its flawless and now, so too does this MIXCAST 4. Thank You Tascam. The only and biggest shortcoming with the MIXACST and The Rode is that it is impossible to toggle off channel or mic monitoring from monitor or headphone outputs. This is a problem because if you're like me who lives on Zoom, Team and other confencing apps. the monitoring creates all kinds of mic feedback. As I said to to both Rode and Tascam in customer service exchanges - virtually every USB Interface has the ability take the mic out of the monitor mix so you can receive the PC / USB audio without feedback. They claimed "Well this is a mixer" to which I replied "No, It's an interface and a mixer" Rode apparently has now released a beta firmware to toggle off Mic Monitoring. I've asked Tascam to do the same as a feature request.- Let's see what happens. Lastly I want to commend Tascam for their outstanding customer support. When I was setting the thing up I had a question. I called their californina number, left a message and had a call back to trouble-shoot 15 minutes later. That's impressive. My final comment would be this. By all accounts the Rodecaster Pro II is a more accomplished Poscast Studio. It provides more gain in the Mic Pre-Amps and has more functions. But for a guy like me, who just needs and wants a compressor and noise gate, multiple mic inputs and interface combined, The MIXCAST is the perfect device. The Rode is an F-18 with all the complexity of an F-18, the Mixcast is a smooth efficient Leerjet.

Having thoroughly tested and compared the Rodecaster to the Tascam Mixcast, the build quality difference alone is vastly noticeable. The rigidity of the chassis and quality feel of the faders feels professional, whereas the Rodecaster feels like a cheap plastic toy.
One of the most important features is sound quality. The Mixcast has 10dB more gain on the preamps (66dB to be exact). They sound great and are transparent, allowing you to get gain hungry mics like the SM7B or RE20 up to a reasonable level without an inline preamp (such as the Cloudlifter).
The touchscreen is nice and larger than on the Rodecaster, which I like. Feature for feature it is almost neck and neck with the Rodecaster, featuring dynamics processing on all channels. A big firmware update is coming this month (Feb 2022) that will add some missing features such as auto mute studio monitors when microphones are on, a rather important feature found on expensive broadcast consoles.
The I/O is expansive and more robust than the Rodecaster. The first four mic inputs are combo jacks that allow XLR or 1/4" line level, unlike the Rodecaster. You will also find an additional balanced stereo 1/4" line level input if you want to insert additional outboard gear, something the Rodecaster does not have.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
