Amazing 4-inch Touch Display
Center stage on the HeadRush MX5 is an ultra-responsive 4-inch touch display and a guitarist centric, intuitive user interface literally touch, swipe and drag-and-drop to instantly create rigs with lightning speed and precision.

Perfectly Portable and Flexible
Equally suited to home recording or live performance situations, the HeadRush MX5 is incredibly portable at just 3.5 lbs. (1.6 kg) and can fit in most backpacks or instrument cases. It's never been this easy to bring the best classic vintage and modern gear to rehearsals, performances, or recording sessions near or far, without breaking the bank - or your back!

Easy-to-use Stomp, Rig and Hybrid Footswitch Modes
Controlling your sound has never been easier courtesy of MX5's 3 built-in footswitches that toggle 3 models or scenes, change rigs, or access your setlists. Quickly switch between the footswitch modes by holding footswitch 1 to select your desired mode. You can also select setlists, enter hands-free mode, and lock the touch display from this menu.

Fully-Assignable Expression Pedal for Maximum Control
The expression pedal has two powerful modes, Classic Mode and Advanced Mode, alongside a toe switch to switch between two banksExpression Pedal A or B. In Classic mode, if you assign a wah pedal to Expression Pedal A and a volume pedal to Expression Pedal B, only one of them will be active at any time; when you are controlling the wah pedal, the volume pedal will be bypassed, and vice versa. With the Advanced setting you can assign up to four parameters to each expression pedal (A and B). Moving the pedal will adjust all of its assigned parameters simultaneously. Using the toe switch will select the other expression pedal and leave the current pedal's parameters active and at their maximum values.

Best-In-Class Looper with Save & Load Functionality
The HeadRush MX5 has an advanced built-in looper that you can use to layer parts during performances, or use as a songwriting tool when inspiration strikes. You can load .WAV and .MP3 audio files into the Looper to play along with backing tracks; you can also save your new loops as .WAV files and export them to your Mac/PC via USB Transfer Mode for sharing with the world. Each loop has a maximum length of 5 minutes, and can hold up to a whopping 20 minutes of layered audio at a time.

All the connections you need
The HeadRush MX5 integrates seamlessly into your current rig with all the connections you need to handle any performance situation. Combining a 1/4-inch guitar input, (2) 1/4-inch TRS outputs switchable between amp or line level, a 1/8-inch output for headphones, 5-Pin MIDI in/out via 2 1/8-inch-to-MIDI adapters, plus an onboard 1/4-inch stereo FX loop to integrate external pedals at any point in the signal chain, effortless integration into your existing setup is a snap! The HeadRush MX5 even features a 1/4-inch TRS input to connect an external expression pedal. The HeadRush MX5 unites your existing equipment while opening up a world of new sonic possibilities.

Been using the MX5 exclusively for small live shows with both guitar and bass, and it's absolutely fantastic. Intuitive to pick up the basics, and with a little practice it's easy to get used to setting up patches you can seamlessly switch through. The built-in presets all seem to be based around specific songs, so I wouldn't recommend getting this as a ready-to-go collection of tones. They tend to be a little over-gainy and inflexible, but with over a hundred presets it does let you know the range of this unit. If you're comfortable working through the menus, you'll have a lot of fun since both the knob and touch controls are perfectly usable. The actual emulation side of things is fantastic too. I suggest checking out the Headrush website for the list of what everything is meant to replicate, and the forums/social media for live service updates (wasn't expecting a Blues Driver but they gave it to me and I love it). The reverb side of things is a little sparse, nothing super modulated and fancy yet, but what exists is very controllable and functional. All the amps sound great, but of course the warning is that you'll have to learn how to set them, which mic and cab you want, etc. to really get your ideal sound. It works beautifully with my bass and my guitars, it's solid and feels fairly indestructible, and I've trusted it as my only on-stage sound at a variety of venues to great success. Once you get familiar with the controls (the manual is pretty good!) you'll be able to easily throw together a decent sounding patch in no time for more basic cases. Plays well with amps and FOH, and it's saved me when I realize last-minute I forgot to add a wah pedal for the one song in the set that needed it.

I run it direct to PA on Sunday mornings for quiet stage volumes. Have also used HX Stomp and Tech 21 amp-less offerings. The Headrush has my favourite amp modeling of all of them. It lacks a little in the ambient effects section, especially reverb, but the effects it has do sound good. Also they are still (Sept 2022) updating firmware and adding stuff. I think it will continue to be a relevant product for awhile. PS also has a great looper. PPS also does a fantastic job making the most of its three foot switches. Very flexible.

After owning this unit for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to put in the review. On the POSITIVE SIDE: the screen is amazing, crystal clear, high definition, super responsive, and the interface is absolutely amazing, second to none. The tone quality is really good too, especially when paired to a decent pair of studio monitors (speakers). The build quality is world class. The IOs (inputs/outputs) are all there, there's nothing missing. On the NEGATIVE SIDE: Stock presets are pretty bad, you may want to download third party IRs and presets for a much, much better tone. My biggest disappointment is I feel misled by the advertisements on the box, saying how there are 50 amp models (with the latest update) and in your head you're thinking this is 50 distinct, separate amps, but in reality they have like 3-4 copies of the same amp in a different setting (like, a normal channel, then hi-boost channel, etc) so in reality there's more like 14 different actual amps. Kinda feel robbed there. Also the manual doesn't state what the amp models are based on, and it's kind of hard to figure out what the pedals are too. For some reason it doesn't feel like there are that many pedals either. Granted, sounds are really high quality and they shouldn't let you down but I feel like there aren't that many and also the amp models don't seem to have all the knobs and switches that a real amp would have. I like the interface on this far more than the pod go, but I feel that the pod go had far more settings, amps and effects than this does. Sound wise though they're on par, perhaps I'd give a slight edge to the headrush. If you keep your expectations under control, I think this is a very good unit, but not perfect.

I have the MX5 connected to a DSL40cr using the four cable method and midi. It works extremely well and it was simple and easy to setup. I can’t remember the last time I bought any tech that was straight forward. I have patches set up that automatically switch the amp to the desired channel. I have volume boost/cut and e.q. In each patch. The dsl has a volume drop when I go to green clean, no problem, I turn up the level in the loop block to fix that. The dsl shares the same treble mids and bass.. no worries, I add or remove a bit of highs and bass on a e.q. or parametric e.q. In that patch. I select another patch (they call them rigs) and it switches the amp channel, so then I customize all that plus whatever pedal board I want for this rig; “crunch” let’s say. I had a crapload of pedals before this for one amp and a pair of zoom pedals each almost the cost of this with nowhere near the capability. Sold all that stuff! Zero regret, nothing but happy. Buying a second one (just so I don’t have to move it to my other amp). The best part is early in the morning when everyone is sleeping I plug in headphones and have patches setup with amps and cab blocks in the chain as well. The FX’s are actually great and not just ok like the stuff at this price point has been in the past. By far the best $500 I’ve spent in a long time!

I am just totally blown away by the MX5. I owned the POD Go, loved it, but sold it for the MX5 for the value it gives for the price point. After spending just 5 minutes with it I could dial in way more satisfying tones from it way faster than I could from the POD Go. Very responsive tones. While the models may not have as many parameters as their Helix counterparts, I think that's where this unit's strength is; the sounds you can get from them are very realistic IMO. Their UI/UX experience is the most intuitive and feature rich I have ever seen among many modellers; one of my favourite features being block-level presets, preset setlists and PC-like file management; You get practically unlimited storage for your presets, rigs and IRs. If you are skeptical about Headrush, please make sure you check their manual and feature set. They offer great support on their forums and sites; and the best part IMO is they offer the FULL DSP power as the flagship unit which makes this unit the best in it's price range by a long shot.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

Great Additions
