I used to be solely a fender guy. A few years ago I was in the market for a Gibson Les Paul, but, unable to afford a full-fat standard or classic (being a full-time musician has it's downsides, and not being able to afford fancy guitars when they're for work purposes is one of them) - I decided to give this a go. I found an unbeatable deal in L&M used for $399, and immediately started modifying mine to meet my requirements. Here's my professional opinion: this is a very comfortable guitar, the neck is a true 50's profile and the craftsmanship of the wood detail itself is the same as that of higher-end LP's I've played - pickups are fantastic, and the wiring is nice and quiet. Straight out of the box, so to speak, this thing sounds amazing - BUT, if you come across one, bin the machine heads and change the nut immediately. You also might consider changing the bridge - Gibson has given you a quality built axe for cheap but you're going to need to invest in good hardware to compete with big-boy gibsons. I invested in some graphtech ratio locking tuners, a graphtech tusq nut and a resomax bridge with string saver saddles. I also fitted a bigsby B7 with a vibramate. All in, including the guitar itself, I spent roughly $700 including parts and a setup from my tech. To own a USA Gibson Les Paul with a bigsby, locking tuners and string saver saddles for less than the price of a new Epiphone les paul is unheard of and unbeatable. If you can still find one of these at a low price, go for it. It's the best money I've spent on a guitar, this thing slays. I barely ever break strings, it now holds tune perfectly, and it does everything - jazz, blues, country, rock, funk, pop, soul, hard rock, you name it it's perfect for the job. The satin finish won't last, so be prepared for significant wear and tear and a relic'd look after a year or two, even with careful use - but it's a small price to pay! 10/10 recommend

I've been a Strat man. Still am. To me that was rock and roll personified. Of course, you can say the same about Les Pauls. Had to have one. Didn't want to pay the price. Thus the LPJ. I can't believe the tone and crunch that comes out of this beauty. At 50 I'm playing better than ever (I wish I could say the same about my golf game.) Completely stripped down of the bells and whistles ( except for the ones that matter) this puppy is an amazing addition to your collection. As a bonus, I went to L&G to buy a cherry flavored addition and found a used 2013 version at $450. I actually love the look of the matte wood grain finish. But who cares? Its the sound baby! The sound!!

I have owned the 2013 model of this guitar in the red colour. Initially i was interested because of the price for an american made Gibson (699$) i believe it was. I have played strats and strat style guitars all my life (35 years of playing) and while i still love my strats this guitar has really become my number one. I I put it like this: imagine being allowed to go into a Porsche factory and grab all of the parts you need to build a great car and have it assembled for you and a simple paint job applied before you drive it away. Is it a Porsche? Yup every component is just like the other cars built in that factory and it sounds and drives just like it should. The LPJ has a rather spartan look but i like that. This guitar is all about substance over style. I'm not a collector and I'm not trying to impress anyone with an expensive shiny les paul i want to sound good and enjoy my hobby. It has taken a few months of tinkering and adjusting this and that and trying different string brands and guage a but now i challenge guitar players to take a blindfold test and see if you can tell this from a more expensive les paul. Too many guitarists obsess over gear and need to practice more. You can buy shinier and fancier les Paul's but if you are focused on having a quality instrument that your grandkids will most likely own and love then you cannot go wrong with any of these "low end" Gibsons. Im a fan for life and would have to be starving to part with this its become like a part of my body.

I got the 1st vintage burst that came into BC. I have 2 other Gibson (Studios; a '98 traditional Weight relief and an '08 chambered) to compare with as well as a few Gibson clones and I love this guitar. I know Gibson craftsmanship can be hit and miss these days but they did well on mine, no concerns with QC. The '61-Style seem a bit brighter yet not quite as hot as the 498t in the bridge but it's not dramatic. Overall, stellar guitar, no regrets and a no-brainer at the $699 I paid, I see they've raised that. I was sold by the unpainted neck and price. Plays like butter and can certainly bark out that "Les Paul sound". Love the stock graphtech nut and satin H/W. Kudos to Gibson, they got this one right. Recommended for sure.

I stumbled upon this guitar by chance, it was being used to test an amp. After playing it for 5 seconds I bought it and went back the next day to buy another. It comes fairly close to my LP Standard...until the amp is cranked. I actually play this more than the Standard for sheer weight-saving alone, this guitar is a remarkable deal! There are VERY few guitars under a grand that can touch this guitar...add the fact it's U.S. made and it has no equal in my opinion :)

I have played lots of different guitars throughout the years, including Les pauls and strats. I gotta say that even with the low price, this guitar feels and plays like my les paul custom. Most of the time i prefer to play this one!

Love my new LPJ (Fireburst Satin) What I DON'T love about it, is that two days before I bought it, it was $699. Sneaky 100 dollar price increase from Gibson. Secondly, I now find out that I can get the same guitar at Futures##p for $50 CHEAPER. Of all places, Futures**p!!! I'm not amused.

I currently own a 2013 model of the Gibson Les Paul LPJ. After comparing it to higher end models like the Traditional and Standard, I decided to go for the LPJ, mainly because of the overall value of the guitar. And I'll admit, it was a great overall choice. It plays and feels like a higher end Les Paul, and it feels comfortable to play. Only differences between the 2013 and 2014 model is the pickups, the knobs and the colour of the tuners. The pickups sound great either way. When it comes to something of overall value, you will never find a better guitar within the price range of this Les Paul. The fact that it includes the quality of an American made guitar, as well as a premium quality gig bag makes this an excellent start to the Gibson glory.

I sampled a Satin Cherry one at the Burlington location and I swear this guitar was married to my fingers. I loved the feel of the satin finish on the back of the neck, and the price is totally unbeatable for the quality. Go ahead and try one. You won't be disappointed!!!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

Great Additions
