I have been playing the same set of Zildjian New Beat hi-hats i got for Christmas in 1980 when i was 15. Extremely happy with them and they just keep sounding better as they age. Have had other sets, but always used those as auxillary hats. The New Beats have always been my main hats. Won't go wrong with them if you want a versatile set of hi-hats. 44 years on says alot about this great instrument.

Upgraded from 13" Sabian SBR. These hats just sound right to me. The bottom hat was noticeably heavier. Seems to be a great all-rounder.

I've been recording drum kits for years and I've always struggled with the hi-hats. Too sloshy when open, too piercing when closed, and always too loud and bleeding all over the snare mic. Tried different mics, preamps, room treatment, still can't get them to do what I need. Thick and loud hats are nice for loud stages, but they can ruin a studio recording in no time. Then I heard these New Beats were the studio standard so I decided to give them a try. Put them on my recording kit and bam! They take just the right amount of space, both in terms of volume and frequencies. They have that pro sound, which would make sense since they are apparently the most recorded hi-hats in history. Some hi-hats will do some things better, but these never sound out of place. They're like a Les Paul into a Marshall Plexi, they just always work. I'm amazed that this simple hi-hat that dates back to the 60's, that doesn't have anything fancy in its construction (no holes, no grooves on the bottom hat, no hand hammering, basic lathing), just a simple medium top on a heavy bottom, is still perfect today in musical genres that weren't invented back then. Like the Les Paul and the Telecaster, I guess they got it right back then! And best of all, they're really not that expensive!

I've been playing these for 35 yrs now. A great set of hi hats. will compliment any style of music except for Heavy Metal/Speed Metal. very articulate. Personally,i think just a beautiful sounding instrument. Great sounding.great quality Professional set of hi hats at a great price. paid around same general price 35 yrs ago with exception taxes in. can't beat the general price at a 35 yr difference for a Professional instrument.
