PODTRAK P8
SET IT. EDIT. CAST. SIMPLE.Podcasting Simplified
The Zoom PodTrak P8 is easy to use and can handle the most ambitious podcasts. With all the functions you need to record, edit and mix, the PodTrak P8 is your complete podcast studio.
Crystal-Clear Recording
The PodTrak P8 features six of Zoom's best-sounding mic inputs, providing pristine audio for you and your guests.
With up to 70dB of gain the P8 can handle the most demanding microphones.
Call Recording
The P8 features a dedicated channel for recording phone calls. Channel six can be switched to USB mode to record your guests from your computer. Both options include a Mix-Minus feature to prevent echo and feedback for the caller.
On-Air Button
When a channel's ON AIR is disabled, you can still hear the tracks through your headphones, but they won't be recorded, or go through speakers or USB. Helpful when having sidebar conversations or prepping your guests during breaks.
Take Your Studio With You
When recording outside the studio, the P8 provides up to two hours of recording with four AA batteries (not included), or connect a USB power supply for extended use.
CONTROLS
Touchscreen Controls
The colour touchscreen interface makes monitoring, adjusting and onboard editing seamless. Everything you need is a touch away.
Mic Preamp Slider
The Mic Preamp Slider allows you to dial in the level or gain of each mic. Make adjustments until the signal is peaking in the "Good Range". Peaking in the "Over Range" section can cause distortion in your sound.
Limiter
The Limiter is used to prevent distortion if the volume suddenly gets too loud.
Low Cut
The Low Cut reduces low frequency noise that is present in almost any recording environment, whether it's air conditioning, street sounds, vibrations, and other sources.
Tone Adjustment
The Tone Adjustment can make your voice darker or brighter, for that perfect podcast voice.
Compressor/DeEsser
Compressor/DeEsser enables your voice to have more presence for that perfect studio podcast sound.
Noise Reduction
In the On Air screen select Noise Reduction to decrease background noise by automatically turning down the mic levels for tracks not in use.

Product Experience I own it

If you’re an amateur podcaster or even a pro looking for a fast reliable setup, don’t hesitate.
The biggest selling feature for me was that the pre amps handle SM7b’s without cloud lifters, you’ve just saved a ton of money right off the bat.
The mix minus is flawless, no echo and no nonsense
The extra phone connection is great as well, paired with the BT adapter makes it perfect for someone who wants to play audio through their phone or have someone call in.
Some people may be turned off by the fact it’s only a 2in 2out interface but you have FULL track by track recording to an SD card. You don’t need to record into your daw, just import later if you want to edit/cleanup on your computer
Another complaint I see is that it’s only 16/44.1k
That’s good enough for a podcast being streamed at mp3 quality. If you’re trying to use it for film, find something that can get to 24/48k
One true complaint I have is that the comp/de ess and EQ doesn’t have any customization. It’s just a line for more or less bass, more or less comp. Since I do all of my post production in Pro Tools, this isn’t a horrible thing. I found I didn’t even need to use the EQ and the comp/de ess was nice when you had it at like 2/10 on the line. It can get VERY strong if you push it too hard so keep it low and under control.
The preamp would have been nice on a knob, I find it slightly annoying to have it on a touch screen slider, but again... it not a huge deal to set it and forget it.
All and all, it’s great, sounds great, looks great and would be a great addition to your podcast studio!!
