The Traynor YBA1 Mod1 is the perfect amp for the discerning player who appreciates incredible boutique tube tone, but doesn't appreciate typical boutique amp pricing. Building on the highly sought-after limited edition 50th Anniversary Traynor YBA-1 head, the YBA1 Mod 1 uses three hand selected 12AX7 preamp tubes and two EL34 power tubes in a Class-AB design to deliver a purely classic guitar sound.

The two separate input channels on the YBA1 Mod 1 each have their own gain and character. The channels can be blended in parallel, or simply pull Channel Two Volume pot to run both channels in series for additional gain, with Channel Two Volume now acting as a master volume for the amp.

Four shared tone controls (Treble, Bass, High and Low Range Expanders) make it easy to dial in your perfect sound. While 'Treble' and 'Bass' act as traditional tone controls, the Range Expanders function more as 'Mid' and 'Presence' controls, offering more dimension and versatility to the YBA1 Mod 1.

An output attenuator located on the back of the head allows the Traynor YBA-1 Mod 1 Head to be tamed for use in studio, rehearsal hall or smaller stages. Five level settings (at 40, 20, 5, 1.0 and 0.5 watts) allow the master level to be controlled while leaving the characteristic tone of the amp relatively unchanged, even at bedroom volume.

absolutely killer amp! gone through amp after amp, trying to find an amp that can achieve the classic sounds i want it to, but also has its own mojo. I can plug in my strat and dial in a spot on fender clean (minus the reverb) and plug in the les paul and get a spot on marshall dirty tone. this thing also takes effects really well. if you can afford to grab a reverb pedal while picking this amp (or if you already own one) you'll be set. i'm running this through the matching 2x12 and it is the sound i've been searching for. never been so pleased with an amp. the two differently voiced volumes makes it so simply to get a great sound right off the bat and the attenuator makes this amp just that much more desirable. if you're on the fence about picking one up, i'll clear it up for you.. Really nice versatile amp. Simple controls and lots of tones on tap. Endless possibilities w/the push/pull volumes and the attenuator. As mentioned below, I too had problems with terrible humming and very microphonic tubes but switched it for another the next day. Very happy - I'd buy it again if I had to.

Although it's not as bullet proof as the original yba amps it's reasonably well built. You'd have to be a bit of a dolt to fry the tubes twice in 4 months especially if you have a clue how to use the standby switch. The built in attenuator is a definite bonus as is the push pull channels for clean or added crunch. Add in the range expanders and you have an extremely versatile tone machine. If I have to say something critical I truly wish it had an effects loop. It takes pedals well but I would really prefer my time based pedals in a loop. I'm truly enjoying this amp and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I don't know what happens to the guy in the last review but this amp is solid, simple, and has a killer tone. I bought the matching 2x12 and this thing is an absolute beast of an amp. Had mine for 6 months now and it is my #1 amp. Killer old school amp I don't miss the FX loop or reverb as it take pedals well. Go try one, you'll love it

This amp is rubbish. I liked the tone, so I bought it. I've gone through 2 sets of preamp tubes in the 4 months I've owned it. There's a reason why you never see Traynor on many stages. I had a Peavey that I thought was a bit unreliable, but this is absolute crap. What kind of company is so cheap that they don't even put aluminum sleeves on the preamp tubes? Traynor are the only losers so cheap that they would do this. The head I have hums loudly, and always has as it has very poor filtering. Get your tech to open it up to look at the circuit board.....that is one of the thinnest boards I've ever seen in a guitar amp. The positive reviews of this amp.... unbelievable. A great idea on paper that is executed very cheaply and poorly. If Traynor weren't so cheap this thing could have been awesome.

Add my name to the other mikes. This is a total beast. Solid built, very nice handle, compact. Monster tone. Can almost get old school metal crunch out of it, think JCM800 ish when you got it cranksed. The attenuator makes this amp 'manageable'. Even at 0.5 Watts the things is pretty loud. Very nice cleans with reasonable headroom, depending on attenuator setting. Sure it doesn't have a unch of push buttons like my Traynor YCS50, but the sound is so much better. My recommendation, go to L&M and try one. Or find a good freind rthat has one and borrow it, though they will likely not get it back. Couldn't be happier with this amp. Haven't tried any pedals in front of it and no fx loop, so I can't say how that would effect it. I played mine with the Traynor 212 cab, not the dark horse one with the greenbacks but the crappier Celestion 70/80s and it still sounded wonderful. Love my Traynors. Great amps, quality and made in Canada. Hope this helps a little bit for those wanting one.

No frills straight out pure tone that is not colored or over processed. Have owned 20 amps & this one hangs with the best. Sounds great with Green Backs.

Extremely well built amp. The implementation of the attenuator is very good. Even at 0.1 watts it retains it tone beautifully. The 2 channels do bend nicely to achieve a huge tonal pallet. The controls are very simple to use. The push/pull volume knob is used to run the channels in parallel or in series for more gain. The overdrive on this amp is simply excellent. It responds very well with your guitars volume and tone controls. It takes pedals well. I have the matching 2x12 vertical cab which not only looks cool but sounds great. Traynor has put out a terrific amp at a very reasonable price. Go out and try one and you'll be taking it home with you. If i had one small complaint it would be that it doesn't have built in reverb but its not really a big deal, I just run a pedal out front.

This is a killer amp. Not only is it made in Canada (big plus for me) but it sounds awesome. If you are looking for that vintage Marshall Plexi sound but don't want to pay that big vintage price tag then this amp is definitely for you. It has a built in attenuator so you can go all the way from a 40 watt stage amp to a .1 watt home practice amp. It's real easy to dial in a slightly dirty light break up sound which you can then augment greatly with either a tube driver pedal or a boost (I personally use a TC Electronic mini Spark Boost) has a push/pull knob for the second volume know which runs the two outputs in series for a thicker higher gain tone. I've successfully been able to play everything from Rush, the Who and Led Zeppelin along with a spattering of other classic rock Marshall tones to some Iron Maiden and some other heavier tones. I highly recommend this amp.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
