Last year i got a brand new 2023 (not even a year old Gibson Les Paul 60s Standard Unburst (AA-figuresd maple top with a classic burst look (not over the top/too flashy). That being said i just checked specs/$$ value…unless you love fatter necks then the 50s standards, this has a fairly baseball bat neck lol, which is a big reason i went for thevLP 60s standard..also has little things like grover tuners and red maple back, and is a burst finish, feels great for a non weight relief Les Paul standard (got lucky and only 8.5lbs). I love the faster/more verstile 60s slim taper neck..just wasnt a huge fan of the 61’ burstbuckers, but within a new months i had Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 alnico 2 pro set of pups installed. Personally i also like my LP to come wirh pickguard vs having to personally drill into a $4200 guitar (if you wanted to add the guard it comes with…along “slash picks”. Exact same case, and shocked for a Slash series Gibson put a pair of custombuckers when its well known Slash has/still only uses Seymour Duncan Slash APH-2’s (alnico II pro humbuckers). In recent years slash wanted his axes to be a little louder output (with no tone/gain/sound change, just little louder…which birthed the Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0, alnico II pro set, once i installed these SD Slash 2.0’s in my 8-9 month old gibson LP 60s standard (unburst, got a beauty finish..not too crazy but you can tell its a burst that looks almost closer to what i see slash play lol). Sounds like im a huge Slash fan, but those SD Slash 2.0 set of pups made the guitar sound like a perfect overall rock axe, handles gain great and cleans up nice also. For $3999 rather then $4299, i got a much nicer top imo, a neck that feels much more comfortable, same case/strap/tool…didnt get the picks or truss rod cover lol, but for a little upgrade by installing chrome or nickle covered set or SD Slash 2.0 pups (which are his legit pups in his axe, not gibsons replica), i am very happy i choose to grab the unburst 60s that i think looks & feels better (depending on your burst), and the great tone from adding the seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 alnico II pro set of pups; rather then spending more and getting something uncomfortable neck wise (50s vintage neck is fat lol), & gibsons replica of slashes tone, pickup wise by using custombuxkers. Same case, same strap and basic case candy…i think one would be better off getting a LP standard with BB 1&2’s (goldtop) with 50s neck..slimmer version then 50s vintage), and go from their..save few hundreded $$ and worst case you can replace rhe pickups easy/cheap installing if not sure how. Also all 3 mentioned have orange drop caps & 50s style wiring. I think it would be a mistake to pay extra just for the name and some specs you may not like as much as 50s/60s standards offer. Plus im a fan of classic old school looking LP that rocks…so i like that it came pickguard installed..and i choose to get covered SD Slash 2.0s, but now i also own a set of 61’ burstbbuckers if looking to change flavor down the road. I would Not want to risk drilling into a $4200 + tax guitar if i feel like having pickguard on, much easier to just unscrew the 2 screws (watch little pad on guitar finish under support pickguard). I’m sure its a great les paul, but just putting it out there that you’re spending more for a name with no real plus’s in my book vs my 2023 LP 60s standard unburst with Seymour Duncan Slash 2.0 alnico 2 pro set of pups.

This year marks my 20 years of playing guitar since age 15 and I have never owned a Gibson. I've been blessed with a late 90's Fender American Telecaster modified with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and kill switch (an absolute shredder), and an early 2000's Epiphone Les Paul Custom (Korea), but never a Gibson. Out of the case the Slash Victoria Les Paul Standard is an absolutely beautiful guitar. Equipped with some goodies (and pick guard should you wish to install), a quick tune up and warmed up through my Trainer 40W and this has the cleanest and warmest tone of any guitar i've had the pleasure of listening to. I quite literally was smiling to myself while playing this, with the realization I should have made this type of purchase 15 years ago. Slash's classic tone is emulated through this guitar but the sound is so much more. As a blues player this guitar sounds amazing with clean rich notes and amazing sustain. Check this guitar out, you will not be disappointed...

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
